BEFTWFITB – Chapter 16

Bailian, the new transfer student, gained the highest attention in Xiangcheng Middle School due to her overly striking looks.

Anyone who had seen her would not forget her.

The girl who was just talking had seen Bailian on the second floor at lunchtime, and had a deep impression.

Seeing Ren Wanxuan so angry now, she was also a little scared.

“Class monitor, nothing will happen right?” The girl looked at the class monitor of Class 8.

The class monitor had apparently also heard of this transfer student Bailian. He shook his head, indicating he was not sure, “Let me go take a look. I don’t know if it has anything to do with that new student. If we really lose someone for no reason, our class can’t guarantee we won’t get unlucky!”

He kicked away the stool and went out.

Behind him, Shi Yutong’s eyes flashed sinisterly. She followed him out and revealed a gloating smile, “It must be that transfer student!”

Class 15.

At lunch break, most people were resting their heads on the tables, while some were busily writing.

“Bang!”

The door was opened by someone, startling many who were sleeping on the tables.

Ren Wanxuan, Shi Yutong, the Class 8 class monitor, and several other Class 8 students.

No one in school did not recognize them.

Class 15 quietened down completely. Even the few people discussing softly stopped talking and just watched them quietly.

Dead silent.

Class 8 was known as the Crown Prince Class. Because they acted arrogantly, students from other classes were used to their attitude.

Ren Wanxuan did not look at anyone. Her gaze swept across the classroom once as she coldly asked, “Where’s Bailian?”

No one dared to speak.

Zhang Shize, who was napping on the table, was awakened by the loud sound of the door slamming open. He glanced at Ren Wanxuan and the Class 8 class monitor, sat up straight, leaned back, and said, “She went to the bathroom. What are you looking for her for?”

Zhang Shize was still speaking.

Without even thinking, Shi Yutong walked directly to Bailian’s seat. She reached into the desk hole and took out a black schoolbag. Turning it over –

Swish!

A pile of books and notebooks fell onto the ground.

Ren Wanxuan did not look at those books. Her gaze was fixed only on the conspicuously red cover amongst the pile.

Bending over, she picked up the red invitation coldly from the pile of books. She also took out a tissue from her pocket and carefully wiped it before holding it in her hand, smiling strangely at Zhang Shize. “Got it wrong?”

Zhang Shize and the people around him were also stunned when they saw the red invitation in Ren Wanxuan’s hand.

Yang Lin had been expressionless, sitting in her seat watching Shi Yutong dig through Bailian’s schoolbag. When Ren Wanxuan picked out that red invitation from the pile of books, an incredulous expression slowly surfaced on her face.

**

Bailian had just returned from the bathroom.

“I don’t want to say it,” seeing Bailian return, Ren Wanxuan only coldly retracted her gaze. “Go explain it to the teacher yourself.”

However, Bailian was not looking at her.

She stood at the doorway, looking at her seat. Her black schoolbag was casually thrown on the ground. Books were scattered under and around the stool and desk, as well as a carton of milk that Ji Shaorong had put in her bag before she left in the morning.

The classroom was as quiet as usual.

Bailian slowly walked to her seat, kicked away the stool, and lowered her head to look at the scattered books for a few seconds.

She lifted her head. Her face devoid of any smile, only three words, “Who did this?”

She had always been lazy in appearance, apathetic towards things other than studying.

At this moment, her features were deep and stern. Her pair of pitch-black eyes were like a shroud of morning mist. Her originally delicate brows furrowed with a strong, unapproachable harshness!

Even Zhang Shize involuntarily took half a step back when her gaze swept past him.

His eyes turned to Shi Yutong.

“It was you?” Bailian reached out, her slender fingers grabbing Shi Yutong’s neck and jerking her over.

“Bang!”

With one hand clutching her neck, Bailian threw Shi Yutong onto the stool.

The loud sound caused everyone involuntarily to retreat another step.

Bailian pulled out the wooden hairpin from her hair bun. The sharp hairpin pointed at Shi Yutong’s artery as Bailian’s hand slowly pressed down. She smiled at Shi Yutong almost cruelly, “Who allowed you to touch my things?”

The skin on Shi Yutong’s neck was extremely red. Faint traces of blood could vaguely be seen.

“What’s going on?” Teacher Lu Lingxi rushed over in a hurry.

Teacher Lu’s voice was gentle yet powerful.

Class 15 had already sent someone to inform Teacher Lu since the Class 8 students entered.

“Bailian!” Zhang Shize reacted and reached out to grab Bailian’s hairpin.

Bailian looked fixedly at Shi Yutong for a few seconds.

Cannot kill.

Teacher Lu said these were all the country’s flowers of the future.

But this person was destructive.

Since she was destructive, forget it then.

Bailian thought for a few seconds, then slowly retracted her hairpin.

“Cough cough–“

Shi Yutong hurriedly climbed up, a terrified expression as she looked at Bailian. Before touching Bailian’s desk, she had never imagined the seemingly harmless girl before her was a madwoman!

**

The lost belonging of Ren Wanxuan was finally found in Class 15.

It was not a trivial matter.

When the vice-principal heard it was Ren Wanxuan’s matter, he also put down what he was working on and came to the Grade 12 block.

“No need to inform the parents,” Ren Wanxuan held onto the invitation. She hung up Teacher Ji’s phone call and said to Teacher Lu and the school leaders, “Just call the police directly.”

Calling the parents would just play into Bailian’s hands right?

It would not remain a family matter, rather the whole school would know that this new student had ties to the Ren family.

Ren Wanxuan did not doubt at all that this matter was not done by Bailian. Other than her, Ren Wanxuan did not know who else would be stupid enough to do such a self-defeating thing.

If it really flared up after calling the parents, and they were pressured by public opinion, the Ren family could only let it go.

But Ren Wanxuan insisted on not letting her have her way.

“Ren,” Teacher Lu did not actually feel that Bailian did it. But no matter who did it, she also did not agree with calling the police. “This is a school matter. Calling the police will affect students too greatly….”

Beside her, the vice-principal repeatedly nodded in agreement.

“Not calling the police? Taking it too lightly,” Ren Wanxuan looked at the people in the office. “If you all don’t know how priceless this invitation is, go ahead and ask Chen Zhe.”

Beside her, after pondering for a while, Chen Zhe said, “Teachers, this is an invitation from Baihu Auction House. Other than special channels, it really has an exorbitant value.”

These teachers did not know what Baihu Auction House was.

But hearing the words of both Ren Wanxuan and Chen Zhe, they knew it was no trivial matter.

Teacher Lu and vice-principal looked at each other speechlessly.

“Cough cough,” beside Ren Wanxuan, Shi Yutong said hoarsely, not daring to look at Bailian. “We won’t call the police. I will help you all….”

Teacher Lu frowned. “But….”

“It’s fine,” Bailian was taller than Teacher Lu. She placated Teacher Lu, looking completely unconcerned. “Go ahead and let them call the police. I’ll be fine.”

“But their family….”

Teacher Lu knew it was unwise to provoke these influential families.

She looked at Chen Zhe. Unlike the rest of Class 8, Chen Zhe would not abuse his family background to cause trouble wilfully. Perhaps the only person in school who could stop Ren Wanxuan was him.

Chen Zhe retracted his gaze, his refusal very clear.

This was a matter of principle. He could not help Teacher Lu. Also….

The invitation from Baihu Auction House was also very important to the Chen family.

Teacher Lu deflated slightly.

Shi Yutong had already called the police. She looked at Bailian with enmity.

Bailian had never cared about that invitation. She simply took out her phone to look for a contact picture. Slowly, she asked –

[..]

White Vest: [Sis, I was just about to tell you, someone placed a bid for your invitation.]

Bailian: [Xiao Mao, does that thing have any records of previous purchases?]

White Vest: [No records! But everyone has a unique one. Boss let the auction house make another one specially for you. So you’re a VIP with a golden “Bai” character on the back.]

Bailian understood and simply typed a word.

White Vest: [Sis, I’ll be at the usual place tonight. I’ll pass you the money from the bidder.]

Bailian: [Ok]

White Vest: [Sure, sis!]

**

Since it involved the Ren family, the police station also did not dare delay. The police arrived very quickly.

Because it concerned school, they were afraid of disturbing the students and thus came in plain clothes without sirens.

The lead detective interviewed Bailian separately and went to retrieve corridor security footage.

Teacher Lu felt uneasy. She looked at the vice-principal, seemingly wanting to say something.

The vice-principal sighed. Lowering his voice, he said with some headache, afraid of Class 8’s privileged children, “Teacher Lu, you know none of the Class 8 students are easy to deal with. For your student, if you don’t want her to have any criminal records, just get her to transfer schools.”

Although he was the vice-principal, he could only quiver in fear before the Ren and Chen families too.

The entire interview process seemed simple.

In less than three minutes, Bailian had come out with the detective from the next room.

As they emerged, all eyes turned towards them.

Teacher Lu even stood up directly, a questioning look on her face.

“Miss Ren,” the detective had been informed beforehand of Ren Wanxuan’s status. He politely asked, “May I take a look at the invitation you’re holding?”

Ren Wanxuan’s brows furrowed slightly.

But she still passed the invitation over.

Unlike the public, the police who maintained Xiangcheng’s security all year round, naturally knew about Heishui Street and Baihu Auction House. Seeing the lifelike white tiger on the red invitation, he held it cautiously.

He flipped to the back.

Bailian had not examined the invitation carefully before. Only now did she see the tiny “Bai” character at the bottom right corner. Coming to her senses, she took out the original wooden hairpin from her pocket again and calmly put up her hair.

Her fingers were slender and fair, completely devoid of any impurities.

It was difficult to imagine these artistic hands strangling Shi Yutong’s neck just a while ago.

She looked at the detective innocently, her brows and eyes clear. Graceful and well-behaved, she asked, “Can I go back now? I haven’t finished my homework.”

The two detectives had never seen such a beautiful, obedient and hardworking student before. Some fatherly love arose and they hurriedly said, “Of course, go back and do your homework.”

Bailian nodded and started taking off her uniform as she walked out.

As if remembering something, she turned back pitifully, “Teacher, she pushed my desk just now.”

She tattled to Teacher Lu.

The detectives immediately turned to Shi Yutong sternly, “Student, be careful of your words and actions!”

Teacher Lu quickly blocked Shi Yutong’s line of sight to Bailian and gently said, “Bailian don’t be scared. Go back for self-study first. The teacher is here.”

Shi Yutong looked at Bailian in disbelief.

“…???”

What pushing desks? F*ck, she only dug through her bag and Bailian nearly stabbed her neck through!

Are you all blind?!

Now Shi Yutong was the one who really wanted to call the police.

Bailian had already left. The others in the office came back to their senses.

Chen Zhe dazedly looked at the invitation in the detective’s hands, then at the door.

Not knowing what he was thinking.

Shi Yutong yelled hoarsely, “Uncle police, she is the thief! Why did you let her go just like that? Did someone notify you? Do you know whose things she stole?”

Ren Wanxuan also stood up sharply. She frowned looking at the detectives. Biting her lips, she asked, “Did my family call you guys? Who was it? My dad?”

The two detectives were stunned. “What call?”

Ren Wanxuan laughed coldly. Not wanting to argue further, she said, “You two can drop the act. If you didn’t receive a call, would you have dared to let her go? Forget it, just return me the stuff.”

She stretched out her hand.

“Miss Ren, when did you buy the invitation?” Unable to resist, one detective asked.

Ren Wanxuan replied, “Yesterday. Spent 500,000 on it.”

500,000 was sky high for ordinary folks. But to them, it was nothing.

What was important was the channel.

“500,000. Based on our understanding of Baihu Auction House’s market price, that would be an ordinary customer. Miss Ren, you probably do not know that Baihu Auction House has a unique kind of invitation right?”

“What?” Ren Wanxuan was startled. She really had not heard of it before.

The detective turned the invitation over to show her the tiny “Bai” character. “See it? This bottom right corner has a “Bai” character. It means this is the private belonging of that Bai classmate just now. Baihu Auction House’s VIP invitation. Not only are you holding someone else’s things insisting on reporting to the police, you even claimed it was yours?”
