Bai Shiming remained motionless.
The senior student sitting beside him, waiting for Bai Lian to fill out her form, started urging him, “President, haven’t you finished registering yet? Little sister, come fill out your new student report with me first.”
She kept staring at Bai Lian’s face as she handed over the pen and paper, her voice dripping with sweetness: “Little sister, come, fill out this form.”
Bai Lian thanked her and took the paper and pen.
She leaned forward slightly to write down her basic information.
“Little sister, let’s add each other on WeChat first before you go to your dorm. Your dorm is in South Mei Area, Building 4, Room 407,” the senior student took out her phone and successfully added Bai Lian on WeChat. “I’m Ye Jingxian, a second-year student from the main campus. You can come to me for anything.”
Seeing Ye Jingxian add Bai Lian on WeChat, Gu Xiaoge also took out his phone, but just as he did, he felt a gaze from behind.
Gu Xiaoge looked up and saw the cold man wearing a black T-shirt.
Even through the sunglasses, he could feel the killing intent.
This moment of hesitation made Gu Xiaoge miss the best chance to add her as a friend.
After Bai Lian left, Ye Jingxian picked up the form she had filled out. Bai Lian’s handwriting was clear and forceful, with a natural rhythm in the strokes that showed strength. She had practiced hard-pen calligraphy before, so she could recognize the vigorous energy in the writing.
“She must have studied calligraphy. I definitely need to get her into our Arts Department,” Ye Jingxian said confidently while looking at the paper.
Beside her, Bai Shiming looked at the computer screen and said softly, “Not necessarily.”
“What do you mean?”
As the next student was about to line up, Bai Shiming pointed at the computer screen that hadn’t refreshed yet and showed Ye Jingxian, “Look who she is.”
Ye Jingxian leaned over to look, and saw the glaring college entrance exam score—
“Damn, she came to our college too? How come we didn’t hear about such big news?!”
This year’s new students were all housed in the female dormitory buildings in South Mei Area. The dorm rooms were all standard four-person rooms with bunk beds and desks underneath. Cyan-colored partitions separated each desk, making the entire dorm very spacious, with a private bathroom.
The balcony was also quite large, with a table and two wooden chairs.
Bai Lian was among the early arrivals, and no one else had arrived in the dorm yet. She chose the bed on the left near the balcony.
Shen Qing got water from the bathroom and wiped down Bai Lian’s desk and chair, as well as those belonging to her future dormmates. Meanwhile, Bai Lian arranged the books from her suitcase on her desk.
Her belongings were simple – just books and clothes.
Since she wasn’t planning to stay on campus during the registration period, Bai Lian hadn’t brought her computer.
After registration, Bai Lian took Shen Qing and Ji Heng to tour the Jiangjing University campus. Shen Qing took many photos.
Tang Ming and Ning Xiao also came out from the male dormitory.
There were more people registering at this time than before. People were everywhere on campus, and the Famous Figures Square was particularly packed with crowds and luggage.
Both Bai Lian and Ning Xiao preferred quiet places like the library café.
However, Shen Qing and Tang Ming’s parents enjoyed the bustling atmosphere. After lunch, they finished visiting the campus landmarks – the Famous Figures Square, library, science museum, and teaching buildings. It was already past four in the afternoon.
Tang Ming’s parents had a flight at eight in the evening, so they left first.
By this time, the peak registration period for new students had passed, but there were still quite a few people at Jiangjing University’s entrance.
Bai Lian stood lazily by the roadside, watching Shen Qing take photos of the university gate with her phone.
“Yang Lin’s dorm is in Building 5,” Lu Xiaohan watched Tang Ming escort his parents away, then turned to talk to Bai Lian. “But she went to the neighboring Art Academy today.”
“Art Academy?” Bai Lian tilted her head slightly.
She remembered the traditional Chinese painting she had seen in Yang Lin’s biology notebook.
“Yes,” Lu Xiaohan didn’t think much of it. “Grandfather has finished making the clothes. I’m going to meet Grandpa Jian later to finish filming this part of the video before school starts.”
Bai Lian took out her phone and looked down at it, “Okay.”
On her phone, Yan Lu had sent a message saying her new drama would finish filming in a week, and then she would return to Xiangcheng to wait for Zhang Shize’s release.
Bai Lian’s fingers tapped on the phone screen.
Beside her, Ji Heng lit a cigarette, exchanged pleasantries with Lu Xiaohan with a smile, then walked to Bai Lian’s side and spoke after a moment of thought, “Ah Lian, have dinner with us tonight.”
“It’s from the lady who sent you the bag last time.”
Bai Lian watched Lu Xiaohan leave the campus gates and remembered the bag Ji Shujun had brought back last time.
It was a unique style, but being leather, she had examined it and figured it would deform if she packed too many books, so she left it unused at Shanhai Apartments.
She usually preferred the canvas bags Ji Heng made for her – they could hold more things and weren’t easily damaged.
Her phone rang, and Bai Lian looked down to see it was Dean Huang calling.
She answered: “Dean Huang?”
“You came for registration today?” On the other end, Dean Huang walked to the window and looked down at the new students coming and going below.
As the dean of the Physics Department, he naturally attended new student registration day. He had just arrived at school when he heard professors discussing two names: “Liang Wuyu” and “Bai Lian.”
Looking further, he saw that Bai Lian had registered for his Physics Department.
“Yes, came early.” Seeing Shen Qing still taking photos, Bai Lian leaned casually against the nearby railing, her green dress falling to the ground.
Ji Shujun was also off work today, so Ji Heng arranged to send Bai Lian for registration first.
“How are you preparing for the Tongfeng class exam?” Dean Huang remembered this matter.
Bai Lian had one leg propped up casually. Hearing this, she smiled lazily, “Not bad.”
When top students say “not bad,” it usually can’t be taken at face value.
Hearing her tone, Dean Huang roughly understood. He nodded, his tone much gentler, “That’s good. The teacher will be back in a few days. If you encounter any problems, just call me.”
The teacher he mentioned was naturally Academician Ma.
“Okay.” Bai Lian looked up at the sky and responded casually.
On this end in Dean Huang’s office, the two professors listening to Dean Huang’s tone looked at each other in bewilderment.
After Dean Huang hung up the phone, the professor from the laboratory finally spoke, “Dean Huang, were you talking to Academician Zhou?”
Academician Zhou was from the Aerospace Department and was also Academician Ma’s earliest student – the senior brother among Academician Ma’s students.
At 47 years old, he was the youngest academician.
Since Dean Huang had referred to Academician Ma as “teacher” along with the person on the phone, they assumed it was one of Dean Huang’s fellow disciples.
Hearing this, Dean Huang didn’t answer, just shook his head at them with a rare smile: “No.”
Far from being Academician Zhou, this was their future junior sister.
In Mu Yining’s office.
She wore a black business suit and slightly turned her head to look at her assistant beside her, “Are you certain it’s Mr. Chen?”
“The document was just issued this morning,” the assistant closed the file. “He’s confirmed as the top official of Yunxiao District.”
“This is really…” Mu Yining looked down at the street below, lost in thought.
Yunxiao District had recently replaced a batch of officials from top to bottom, breaking the network of connections in their circle. To complicate matters, Yunxiao District’s top official had been transferred out a year ago, leaving the circle completely clean.
The economic lifeline and policies were all in their hands.
But this circle was indeed difficult to enter.
“We’re not the only ones hitting a wall,” the assistant saw Mu Yining’s furrowed brow and spoke up. “Most have hit walls, except… one company.”
Mu Yining turned her head, “You mean that Xu corporation?”
“Yes.”
Mu Yining looked down at the street below and said nothing more.
The assistant flipped through the schedule and continued reporting, “Ms. Mu, I couldn’t book Kangyu Tower, so I booked the Yu private room at Qingxin Tower for seven o’clock tonight.”
Ji Heng was Mu Yining’s elder. Mu Yining had met Ji Heng when she was old enough to remember things, and she recalled him as a very capable person, though after he split from the Mu family, there had been no news of him.
Learning that Ji Heng had come to Jianjing, Mu Yining naturally wanted to receive him with high standards.
Kangyu Tower was difficult to book; getting a reservation at Qingxin Tower at this time was already quite good.
Mu Yining raised her wrist to look at the time on her watch, decisive and efficient: “Assistant Wang, you go pick them up first. I’ll drive there myself later.”
Assistant Wang had Ji Shujun’s WeChat and asked for their location.
Ji Shujun directly sent a location pin.
Assistant Wang got into the driver’s seat, opened his phone, and saw the location was Jianjing University.
Ji Shujun had told him they were taking their niece for registration today.
He had collected Ren Wanxuan’s information – her grades were decent but not among the top talents. They say domestic talent looks to Jianjing University, and Jianjing University talent looks to Class Three.
Not to mention Ren Wanxuan, even Mu Shao wasn’t considered among the top talents.
After meeting Ren Wanxuan, they basically had no expectations for the other girl.
The university entrance wasn’t as congested as before, but there were still quite a few taxis.
Assistant Wang drove the car to the gate entrance, his gaze falling on Ji Heng and the others who had just come out of the university gates, and he thought hazily:
He and Butler Lou had always known that Miss Bai had tested into Jianjing, but they had never asked which school she was at, so this was it—
She was at Jianjing University.
