The first class was a major course.
Generally, students living in the same dormitory were in the same class and major, so apart from elective courses, Lin Xiche and the other three had the same class schedules.
The four of them left the dorm together.
Lin Xiche woke up late and rushed through her morning routine, finally having some time to reflect on what she had done in the middle of the night. Even she thought she had acted foolishly and nervously.
She had no idea how Xu Fang would react.
He would probably say she’s crazy, right?
Lin Xiche opened WeChat, about to read Xu Fang’s reply, but before she could respond, the screen immediately switched to the incoming call display.
Xu Fang was calling.
Lin Xiche answered, “Hello?”
Her voice, already hoarse from crying the previous night, had lost its usual liveliness and sounded weak, like a withered plant, lacking vitality.
Xu Fang was probably on his way to the teaching building. There was noise in the background, the sound of people talking. Upon hearing her voice, Xu Fang paused, made a low sound, and went straight to the point, “Did you dream that I died last night?”
“…,” Lin Xiche furrowed her brow, “What are you talking about!”
“In that case, why were you crying?” Xu Fang’s tone was indifferent.
Thinking back to her uncontrollable sobbing the previous night, Lin Xiche felt a bit embarrassed. She pursed her lips and said softly, “Why did you call…”
“It’s nothing,” Xu Fang interrupted, paused for a moment, and then said quietly, “Call me in the future.”
“What—” Lin Xiche hadn’t finished her sentence when Xu Fang immediately said, “Hang up,” and then ended the call.
She stared at her phone in a daze, completely puzzled by what he meant.
The dream from last night had strongly triggered Lin Xiche’s memories of a frail and desperate Xu Fang due to illness, causing her to completely forget what Xu Fang looked like in his current healthy and robust state.
Her mind was filled with the image of Xu Fang from that time, frail and emaciated.
After thinking like this for the entire morning, Lin Xiche sent a message to Xu Fang on WeChat, inviting him to have dinner together.
Since all the classes she attended today were mandatory, she spent the morning and afternoon with her roommates. After the last class of the day, Lin Xiche left the classroom, and as soon as she walked out of the teaching building, she spotted Xu Fang standing under the first tree on the left. Seeing him looking so lively, some of the melancholy in her chest dissipated. She bid farewell to her roommates and walked up to him, standing still and watching him without blinking.
Lin Xiche paused for a few seconds, then looked up, her eyes rolling, staring at him without blinking, just like the gaze she had outside the classroom a moment ago.
Just as Xufang was about to imagine pushing her head away, Lin Xiche spoke, saying, “You look like a fool.”
“…”
Seeing Xufang’s face instantly darken, Lin Xiche immediately added, “I didn’t mean it as an insult.”
Xufang: “…”
Xufang had basketball team training at seven o’clock, so he had already eaten by five o’clock. He had only come to accompany Lin Xiche for dinner because he felt that something was off with her mood on the phone.
He quickly ordered a meal for Lin Xiche, placed it in front of her, and impatiently urged, “Hurry up and eat. Finish quickly and let’s go.”
Lin Xiche took a bite of the food and mumbled, “It seems like you’re not happy no matter what I say.”
“It’s enough that you know.”
“Well, then…”
He interrupted her with a cold tone, “Eat.”
Lin Xiche sat across from him, speaking softly, “It’s not easy for me to want to be nice to you for once, and you don’t accept it.”
“…”
“You know, are you the type who enjoys being mistreated?”
Xufang kept his head down, playing with his phone, ignoring her.
“I’m nice to you, and you scold me. I insult you, and you scold me too. How should we get along?” Lin Xiche continued.
Unable to bear it any longer, Xufang raised his head and suddenly said, “Xiche.”
Lin Xiche fell silent in an instant.
He had no expression on his face, and his tone was unchanging, “Adorable Xiche.”
“…”
“Elegant and graceful, with looks that can rival the beauty of a falling fish and a blooming flower, and the elegance of a flower and jade, that’s Xiche.”
“…”
