Before the two could even discuss what to eat, Wu Zhilun had already called to say steak and red wine were ready. The only thing missing was someone to pan fry the steak and drink along. And so, a simple dinner transformed into a candlelight dinner all thanks to comrade Wu’s dedication. Except it wasn’t a intimate dinner for two, but rather three people drinking together.
“I’m considered the worst drinker in my family. My cousin who’s in middle school drinks a full glass of baijiu every meal,” afraid Wu Zhilun wouldn’t understand, Jia He deliberately picked up the glass beside her and gestured, “A cup like this. 56 degree baijiu that they all drink like soft drinks. Last time my former classmates had a reunion that coincidentally overlapped with when my cousins got off school. Seeing me forced to drink alcohol, they immediately charged into battle—four middle schoolers. They drank a whole table of people under the table.”
The above sums up Jia He’s concluding statement before Wu Zhilun got dead drunk unconscious.
Phew, luckily he left…
Wu Zhilun could really hold his liquor. He truly deliberately kept pouring glass after glass from his precious stash.
Jia He watched poor little Ah Qing shoulder him out until the door slammed shut before she wobbly stood up from the carpet. Drinking games were simply trying to down alcohol in one go. Once a victor emerged, utter defeat would follow like a landslide.
Due to the alcohol, her vision was fuzzy. After much difficulty finding Yi Wenze, he was merely seated quietly on the sofa. “I’m tipsy too now.” Yi Wenze casually set the wine glass aside on the tea table nearby before beckoning Jia He over. “Come sit for a bit.”
Jia He walked over unsteadily and sat down beside him, very well-behaved as she sprawled over his lap. Trying hard to cling onto the last shreds of sobriety, but a tidal wave had already descended before her eyes.
He was wearing lounge pants. The soft fabric felt nice. She lightly nuzzled her face against it a couple times. Her mind turned hazy with drowsiness.
The scene before her eyes infinitely blurred—from the carpet to the tea table, then the floor-to-ceiling window. It was as if everything was cloaked under a harsh backlight. From this angle, only a single wine glass could be seen on the table. A bit of wine still remained at the bottom. The lamplight slanted through the glass, leaving a very faint shadow on the table.
How much had he drunk? Probably not a lot.
Once that first bottle was emptied, she had gotten pulled into a drinking match with Wu Zhilun by his coaxing. Truly a waste… Just look how good he was, so self-composed. She slowly exhaled, using his legs as a pillow as she gazed up at him. “How much did you drink? Your complexion hasn’t changed one bit at all.”
She seemed to hear him chuckling before his voice floated over, “Around two and a half bottles.”
The voice sounded from some distant place. She listened closely with some effort.
Two and a half bottles… He can really hold his liquor… Two and a half bottles?!
She examined him closely, watching him intently.
Only after a long time did she suddenly prop herself up by her arms and peer over to count the empty bottles on the table. Exactly six bottles. He had drunk nearly double of what the two of them combined had? He really was an idol!
She respectfully gazed back, completely in awe. “Good that you can drink so well. Drinking capacity is great… No wait, you can’t say you can drink a lot of alcohol,” still slurring drunkenly, Jia He sighed ruefully yet was extremely serious nonetheless, “In the future when you go to my home, you’ll definitely drink until unconscious by my family. Northerners have this habit you know, especially the new son-in-law on his first visit there…”
Her voice abruptly cut off.
Yi Wenze actually laughed. “When it’s time to drink alcohol, you still have to drink.”
It was a simple line, yet it completely seared her face. Jia He fixed her eyes closely on him, staring fixedly without blinking.
Crap, I hope I won’t get so touched that I cry. I’m drunk. Once I start crying, I won’t be able to stop…
Because of the intoxication, her scorching hand clutched his shirt tightly as she practically burrowed into his embrace… Actually, after drinking that much alcohol, certain reactions were inevitable from him too. But perhaps it was that amount of drunkenness—nearly amplifying each minute movement from her.
That soft and muddled breathing carried with it the aroma of grape wine, in extremely close proximity.
He finally sighed quietly, “Want to go sleep?”
“Ah?” Jia He’s eyes widened.
“The current situation, I wouldn’t feel assured sending you back either.”
That was my home. What was there to feel unassured about… She repeated in her mind. Yet there would always be that other voice inside shouting for her to stay, stay, nothing to it. They already stayed together when in Tianjin previously. Nothing to it…
She struggled internally for a long time before finally shutting her eyes briefly.
Just that half second of darkness caused her to thoroughly descend into the vortex of alcohol. The world spun on. She could no longer reopen her eyes.
There were sounds of people walking past outside the door. She felt slightly guilty finding excuses for herself. See, going out like this would be utterly humiliating for him. Who all called her “boss’s wife”… Due to that term “boss’s wife”, she successfully blanked out again. After much struggle, she finally squeezed out in a tiny voice, “I’ll just sleep on the sofa.”
His voice floated into her ear. “I’ll carry you inside. Still have some matters to handle tonight so I’ll take the sofa.”
Jia He oh-ed before feeling her body curl up as he carried her against his chest. His footsteps were very steady with virtually no pauses at all until her body sank into the soft mattress. Only then did she feel herself lying on the bed. She clutched her fists nervously on reflex and tensely waited for him to leave. Yet she failed to realize her own fingers were twisting and tugging his shirt so hard they nearly ripped all the buttons off…
Seeing her panicked and already panting heavily, Yi Wenze truly felt amused. He patted her hand. “Quickly sleep.”
I want to sleep! Why aren’t you leaving yet?!
Her heartbeat infinitely amplified until it peaked. After enduring this standoff for a very long time, she finally struggled within her dozing and sobriety. Exerting all effort, she dazedly reopened her eyes. Only then did she see herself tightly clutching his shirt. With her strength, he could only prop one hand against her side and lean down to accommodate her whim.
Because he had carried her inside, he still hadn’t gotten the chance to turn on the lights.
Moonlight. Only moonlight. She had never felt Beijing’s moon to be this bright before, actually illuminating half the room. While he was right before her, the moonlight outlined an ambiguous silhouette.
“Want me to turn on the lights?” he asked.
Jia He wiggled her fingers which happened to slip through a gap in his shirt, touching his skin. With just this one action, she already frightened herself silly. Not daring to move an inch more, she strenuously blinked her eyes once.
“I forgot to remove my contacts. My eyes feel really dry.” She was just saying whatever.
“Look at me. Don’t blink.” He stretched his hand out to scrutinize her closely under the moonlight.
In her vision, his fingers infinitely magnified until they took up everything she saw. Jia He exerted great effort holding her breath, resisting the impulse to blink. Finally, an odd sensation came before her sight instantly turned blurry. She could no longer see anything clearly.
“Sleep quickly,” he lowered his head to kiss her forehead. “I’ll head out now.”
Jia He hmm-ed and turned over to hug her blanket.
“Thanks for what you said tonight,” liquid courage from the alcohol indeed. She had held in these words the entire night and finally spat them out, “Actually… I already mentally prepared myself. Just need to adapt for a couple days then I’ll be good.”
Her thoughts couldn’t flow coherently anymore. She spoke that one line haltingly and ultimately still didn’t convey herself fully. She buried her face in the blanket, sensing he still maintained that previous posture without moving an inch.
“Anything else?” His voice suddenly grazed past her ear.
“Nothing more.” Jia He clenched her teeth, feeling his breathing—extremely close, nearly touching distance. Yet she merely waited anxiously and apprehensively like that. Yi Wenze still did not take any further action whatsoever. With her heart rate erratically speeding up then slowing down as she heavily panted for air, she wound up even infecting him in the end. His similarly chaotic breathing sounded right beside her ear, enticing and eroding her consciousness.
And yet, he continued remaining completely still like that.
Jia He felt like crying. She finally couldn’t stand it anymore and poked her head out from her blankets. “Do I smell very bad?”
“You don’t.” He paused briefly before laughing very softly.
The room was very peaceful, yet his voice and his laughter were as if coming through a veil of mist.
Still drunk after all! She shut her eyes. Resigned to the fact that you must feel repulsed I’m drunk. After a very long time, she still stubbornly yet almost inaudibly asked, “Then why don’t you kiss me?”
Silence. Extremely quiet.
She could barely breathe anymore yet still couldn’t hear any sounds from him. Crap… As expected, drunkenness harmed people. Her image had utterly collapsed… She didn’t dare budge an inch but felt her face grow warm all of a sudden. Something shifted down slowly until touching her lips. Only then did it stop briefly, “Because you’re drunk.”
She was baffled, wanting to discern whether his words were true or not, but he had already thoroughly kissed her by that point. Her entire body sunk into the soft mattress. He didn’t leave any wiggle room for her whatsoever as that suffocating oppression caused her to tightly grab hold of him as if she were drowning. The cloth was very soft, wrinkling under her clutch.
It was a long, deep kiss.
Not until a phone started ringing in the living room did she groggily open her eyes and lightly pat his back.
“That’s Ah Lun’s phone,” he explained softly.
“Do you need to hand it to him?”
No need—as he spoke, he used an even heavier kiss to press down on her words.
Peeling off layer after layer slowly and attentively until caressing her smooth skin, only then upon that more intimate touch did he discover the woman in his arms was already scorching hot from head to toe. Due to the closer contact, she widened her eyes in fright, like a taut bowstring. Trying hard to look at him. Yi Wenze paused slightly and gazed at her face in the dark, those moist lips that were tightly pursed, eyes chaotic and lost, completely confused…
“Tell me,” he sighed quietly. Then he turned to lightly kiss her neck instead, caressing to help her relax. “Do you like boys or girls more?”
She liked both under his relentless advances which nearly stripped her of all resistance. Then give birth to one of each. He very slowly undid the ties on her skirt, continuously stroking that delicate neck and earlobes. And gently said, my sister and I are twins. Perhaps we can resolve it in one go too. She could no longer see anything clearly whatsoever. She simply shut her eyes and lightly hmm-ed. That kiss which seemed endless, seemingly intent on lasting an entire night, until he lightly grasped her hand and brought it to his chest.
There was a tough object under her fingertips—very tiny, the buttons on his shirt.
Despite the very simple action, she still needed a full four tries before finally managing to undo the first button.
He had ample patience to wait for her. By the time he carried her into the blankets and snuggled right up to her without anything obstructing them any longer, he suddenly noticed her lightly furrowed brows. Attempting to touch her face, the woman in his arms instead furrowed her eyebrows even tighter. She burrowed right against his chest and fell silent, completely still.
She had actually directly passed out asleep.
Yi Wenze lowered his head to look at her. Only after a very long time did he smile soundlessly to himself.
She really was drunk…
That long night—even dreams did not come in such deep intoxication.
Jia He only felt scorching heat enveloping her when suddenly, cool liquid poured into her mouth. Very refreshing. Then she once more hugged that warmth comfortably and fell back asleep. The phone soon started ringing again. She stirred uncomfortably twice. Her splitting headache forced her to pry open her eyes. To her shock, his face filled her vision in her grogginess… Only then did she feel practically no clothes on herself while tightly embracing him…
The arm slung over his waist had already numbed painfully, clearly remaining that way for a very long time. Last night’s events were mere fragments to her. She only recalled something about boys and girls and dragon-phoenix twins. And seemed to have unbuttoned his clothes for him, then… she fell asleep after that?!
Both their bodies were slick with sweat, sticky and irritating. Yet she didn’t dare move a single bit.
After persisting that for a period, in the end, she even felt somewhat drowsy again. So hot…truly so hot.
“Awake?” An extremely soft voice, tinged with laziness after slumber.
“Mm…” She didn’t dare open her eyes.
“Did you sleep comfortably?”
“Mm…”
It was comfortable but she was truly overcomfortable to the point of excess…
“Want to bathe?” He sat up and wrapped her in a blanket while carrying her onto his lap. Only then was she forced to pry open her eyes. I want to keep sleeping, she mumbled. He picked up his watch by the pillow. Nearly eleven o’clock already. Want to eat something first? Okay—she was a complete mess of guilt, self-reproach and shamelessness that left her no choice but to docilely nod her head.
She truly regretted it so much her guts turned greenish-black. It should’ve been rather romantic! A public confession. A candlelight dinner. Appropriate drunkenness. Then…the crux lied in her horribly unsuitable thorough intoxication.
The grey carpet had clothes scattered over it, large and small pieces strewn chaotically yet warmly.
As he embraced her, he also started picking up both their clothes from beside the bed. Just as he grabbed a shirt in preparation to wear it, Jia He finally grasped his hand. Acting with valor and integrity, she declared, “Or how about another go?”
