Mint in the Rain – Chapter 52

After staying in Li Tang for a week and leaving the renovation work to Qin Tao, the two of them finally returned to Qing Yu.

On their way back, Shu He asked him, “We probably won’t come here often. Will the house just stay empty?”

Jing Yi nodded. This was their home, and he didn’t want anyone else living there. At most, they’d find someone to clean it regularly.

Shu He was just asking casually. When they returned to Qing Yu, they didn’t immediately go to get their marriage certificate, choosing instead to wait for a suitable time.

She didn’t actually care much about specific dates, but Jing Yi seemed quite superstitious and insisted on choosing an auspicious day.

Before getting their certificate, he went to the company.

Liang Xu had an invitation from a top-tier singer asking him to be a guest at their concert, and he wanted to get Jing Yi’s opinion.

After hearing about it, he remained silent for a long time before asking, “Why would he invite me?”

This singer had been in the industry for twenty years, consistently at the pinnacle of the Chinese music scene. His concerts were always sold out, and countless artists tried but failed to connect with him.

Jing Yi didn’t think that someone like himself, a relatively unknown songwriter, would be lucky enough to receive such an invitation.

Liang Xu was dissatisfied with this self-deprecating attitude. “What do you mean by ‘relatively unknown songwriter’? Brother, don’t you know you’re my money tree?”

He spoke with conviction, and Jing Yi gave him a cool glance. The man maintained his innocent expression and added, “Besides, he’s been a fan of your songs for a long time.”

This wasn’t a lie. The singer had actually mentioned in an interview that he admired a songwriter named Qi Shan Jing.

As for the concert guest invitation, it wasn’t exactly the singer’s initiative.

Liang Xu had met the singer’s manager at a social event. After chatting for a while, he brought up the upcoming concert.

The manager, being shrewd, smiled and said, “I’ll ask him about it.”

Honestly, Liang Xu hadn’t been very hopeful, but the manager contacted him the very next day.

Appearing at the concert would be all benefit and no harm for Jing Yi.

First, the singer had both an excellent reputation and great connections. Collaborating with him could help dispel some of the rumors about Jing Yi.

Although the previous incident had been clarified, some people still had suspicions about him, which wasn’t good for his future development.

Additionally, many people only knew the name Qi Shan Jing but didn’t know that Jing Yi was also a professional singer.

He had originally been signed because of his vocal talents. After this event, he might receive more business opportunities, and some hesitant artist teams might consider collaborating.

As Jing Yi’s boss and manager, Liang Xu naturally wanted the best for him.

Jing Yi knew that Liang Xu must have gone to great lengths behind the scenes for this opportunity.

After a long silence, just when Liang Xu thought he was going to refuse, the man lowered his eyes and quietly said, “Thank you.”

Liang Xu quickly realized this meant he accepted.

This guy was really something—even his thanks came with an attitude.

Having secured his agreement, Liang Xu felt like he’d accomplished something major. He flashed his bright white teeth and cheerfully walked out with him. “Want to have dinner together tomorrow? My aunt sent us two boxes of hairy crabs. We could have a little gathering.”

“Can’t do it. I’m busy tomorrow.”

“Hmm?” Liang Xu adjusted his sleeves and looked at him curiously. “What are you doing?”

All day long, Jing Yi only focused on Shu He and writing songs. What else could he possibly be busy with?

Jing Yi’s tone was unusually upbeat: “Shu He and I are getting our marriage certificate tomorrow.”

Liang Xu was shocked. “Certificate? Marriage certificate?”

Jing Yi let out a slight chuckle. “What else? Divorce certificate?”

“…..”

Liang Xu still hadn’t quite processed it. “You’re getting married so quickly? Didn’t you just reconcile not long ago?”

Jing Yi immediately looked annoyed. “Who says there’s a required dating period before marriage?”

Liang Xu rubbed his nose but still couldn’t wrap his head around it. “Have you met her parents yet?”

His question left Jing Yi silent. Being experienced in these matters, Liang Xu patted his shoulder knowingly. “You should at least meet her parents, right? It’s a major life event—you can’t hide it from them.”

He truly hadn’t thought of this. Suddenly feeling irritated, he muttered, “I got it.”

Liang Xu pretended not to notice his gloomy expression and began sharing advice on how to win over his future in-laws.

Given this kid’s awkward personality, who knew what kind of scene it would be when he met Shu He’s parents.

While Liang Xu spoke, Jing Yi unusually didn’t object. He kept his eyes lowered, occasionally furrowing his brow, seemingly actually listening.

When Liang Xu finally finished and looked at him expectantly, Jing Yi fastened his seatbelt. His usually cold face finally showed some emotion: “Though I’m not free tomorrow, you can give me the hairy crabs today.”

Liang Xu: “………..”

As soon as Shu He got home, she spotted the box of hairy crabs.

She was pleasantly surprised. “Didn’t you go to the company today? How did you manage to buy crabs?”

Jing Yi washed his hands and bent down slightly for her to kiss him.

“Liang Xu gave them to us.”

Shu He made an “oh” sound. “If I’d known, you could have come to the shop. We have new products, and he could have taken some back for Ni Sui to try.”

“He gave them voluntarily,” Jing Yi said with an innocent face. The hairy crabs were almost ready. He scooped them all out as Shu He eagerly sat at the dining table.

It wasn’t yet peak season for hairy crabs, but the ones Liang Xu sent tasted quite good.

Jing Yi methodically scooped the crab roe into an empty bowl and casually mentioned, “Why don’t I meet your parents first, before we get our marriage certificate?”

The crab legs were a bit difficult to handle, and Shu He didn’t look at him. “Why bring this up suddenly?”

Seeing that she genuinely showed no intention of taking him home, Jing Yi was silent for two seconds. His tone revealed nothing unusual: “I just thought that marriage is a big deal, and they are your parents after all.”

Shu He had planned to take him home after they got their certificate, because knowing Shu Hua’s personality, who knew what kind of cold reception they might face.

Her movements slowed. “Aren’t you afraid they’ll try to break us up?”

He kept his head down and mumbled, “They can try. If they agree afterward, that’s fine too.”

“……”

This wasn’t breaking up a couple—this was just beating him up.

Shu He felt helpless. She took off her gloves and said, “Jing Yi, I don’t want you to be hurt.”

Last time, just hearing Shu Hua’s words on the phone had upset him for so long…

Jing Yi shook his head, unusually not whining: “It doesn’t matter to me, but I don’t want you to marry me so hastily.”

She wasn’t like him. At least for now, her parents still cared about her. This was about courtesy and respect.

His persistence made Shu He feel like she was the unreasonable one.

“But we could have gotten our certificate tomorrow, right? Didn’t you always want an official status? You’re willing to wait?”

“Mmm.” He nodded, pretending to be relaxed with a smile. “I’ll only ever marry you anyway. It’s just a matter of time, isn’t it?”

“……”

Looking at his obedient, understanding face now, it was hard to believe this was the same person who kept asking her in Li Tang if she was really going to marry him.

As soon as they returned to Qing Yu, he had handed over all his identification documents to her.

Shu He didn’t expose him. Soon, there was a bowl full of crab roe in front of her.

Crab roe with rice was indeed delicious. Seeing him start working on the crab leg meat, she fed him a spoonful. Before long, there was a pile of peeled crab meat in the bowl. They ate one bite after another, and half a box of hairy crabs was quickly finished.

After dinner, Shu He unpacked her new scale. When she stepped on it, the sky fell.

She had gained a full five pounds this month.

Five pounds—just imagine…

Jing Yi came out with freshly washed fruit and saw her devastated expression.

“What’s wrong?”

He offered her a piece of cut honeydew melon, but she rejected it with disgust: “Too much sugar. I’m not eating.”

“?”

Only when he saw the unpacked scale did he understand what was happening.

He hugged her and stroked her slender waist with his large hand. “You’re not fat at all.”

Shu He slapped his hand away, somewhat misdirecting her anger: “If you weren’t cooking this and that every day, how could I eat so much? I used to be a very disciplined person, so your opinion has no value.”

“…..”

After being scolded, Jing Yi silently hugged her waist again, nestling his head in the crook of her neck, whining affectionately: “I really don’t think you’re fat. Every part of you is perfect.”

“…..”

Shu He felt ticklish from his antics. He seemed glued to her, impossible to push away.

“Anyway, starting tomorrow I’m going on a diet. Don’t make so many delicious things.”

“……”

“Did you hear me?” She poked him, but he caught her hand and… bit the slender white finger she hadn’t withdrawn in time.

“…Are you really a puppy?”

The biting puppy gradually changed positions, gently biting her collarbone: “I’m your future husband.”

“……”

Shu He burst into laughter. This man wasn’t as calm as he appeared—he was already calling himself her future husband.

Jing Yi couldn’t understand why she was laughing so happily. Shu He cupped his face and said with a smile, “Nothing, I just think my future husband is really cute.”

“……”

Hearing the word “husband” from her lips sent a tingling sensation through Jing Yi’s heart. Suddenly he regretted it… he really wanted to get their certificate tomorrow.

But that night, he still casually asked her why she had never mentioned taking him home.

Shu He found it hard to concentrate at the moment. She was slowly eating the remaining half, feeling a bit full. She tried to sit up and slide out a little, but he grabbed her waist and pressed her back down.

Pushing right to the spot.

Her fingertips dug into his back as she struggled to think about his question.

What did he ask again? Oh, why she wasn’t taking him home.

“I…” She only managed one word before her breathing became uneven, and she continued haltingly, “I don’t have a good relationship with my family… don’t you already know that?”

He was being mischievous, his palms cupping softness, his mouth biting softness. Hearing her words, he couldn’t help but smile: “Sister, you’re quite rebellious too.”

“Can’t help it. Who told me to like you so much?”

Shu He let out a soft moan. The slow, gentle sounds of their movement became like background music.

Perhaps she didn’t know that confessing love in bed was like lighting a fire.

Feeling his growing excitement, Shu He couldn’t resist biting him too.

Kneeling on him like this, moving up and down, was really tiring!

“Hurry up!”

Shu He’s good temper always completely disappeared at times like this, clearly indicating she didn’t want to expend more energy.

He laughed softly and obediently thrust.

“……”

The intense rocking car ride ended.

Today he finally got his wish to carry her in his arms. Shu He was quite exasperated: “You have too much energy with nowhere to use it, don’t you?”

He seemed so happy just carrying her.

Jing Yi looked at her satisfied expression, like an elegant and beautiful Persian cat. A few strands of damp hair clung to her face, and her porcelain-like skin still had a rosy tint.

“Mm.” He obediently admitted. After carrying her to the bathroom, a thought struck him, and he leaned in to kiss her: “Sister, I really love you so much.”

Shu He’s lips were somewhat numb, but she still responded languidly.

After kissing for a while, his lips were wet and glistening, his dark eyes clearly still filled with undiminished desire.

She couldn’t help but smile: “Do you know that saying ‘I love you’ after doing it is very playboy behavior?”

He blinked in confusion, then frowned, clearly unaware of this.

The smile in Shu He’s eyes deepened. She wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned in to kiss him.

“I’m just kidding.”

“I love you too.”
