Nine Out of Ten Points Gentleness – Chapter 27

Seeing a group of people in the room, Jiang Wen’s brows furrowed slightly.

“Have you eaten yet?” Yin Yan spoke first.

Zhao Huiyun smiled and chatted with Yin Yan, “Is this your son?”

Yin Yan nodded slightly: “Our second child.”

Actually, Zhao Huiyun had seen Jiang Wen that night at Simple Sugar, but there were many people and dim lighting then, so while this boy looked familiar, she couldn’t quite place him.

Jiang Wen glanced at Feng Ning and quietly walked to the bedside.

Jiang Yurong grabbed his hand and rubbed it, “Ah, brother, your hands are so cold, let me warm them up.”

Jiang Wen patted her head, “Feeling better?”

“A bit better.” Jiang Yurong looked left and right, blinking her bright eyes, “Does this mean I don’t have to go to class?”

Jiang Yuyun curved her lips, “Is that all you can think about?”

They spoke in the Chongxi dialect, which others couldn’t really understand. After observing for a while, Feng Ning noticed that everyone in this family was good-looking.

Most of Jiang Wen’s features came from his mother. Unlike other middle-aged women, Yin Yan wasn’t plump, her face was well-maintained, showing no signs of age, and you could still see traces of her youthful beauty in her features.

Inappropriately, Feng Ning recalled Shuang Yao’s comment about Jiang Wen’s looks, saying he was particularly pure. She couldn’t understand it then, but now she suddenly got it a little.

His demeanor was very distant. Though only in his teens, even his smile felt cold. On this clean, snowy day, he gave off an impression of pure jade for no particular reason.

Zhao Huiyun was good at reading the room, “Let’s exchange numbers, and we’ll get out of your way.”

Feng Ning also stood up, taking Zhao Fanyu’s hand who was hiding to the side, and pointed at Jiang Yurong on the hospital bed saying: “Quick, sincerely apologize to the little sister, then say goodbye.”

Zhao Fanyu quickly glanced at the person in the hospital bed and squeezed out three sorry’s.

After leaving the hospital building, Zhao Huiyun patted Feng Ning’s shoulder, “Thanks to you this time. When I first arrived, I asked a friend to check, and it turns out we knocked down the Jiang family’s youngest daughter. This stinky kid Zhao Fanyu keeps causing trouble all day long.”

A gust of wind blew against their faces, feeling like a slap. Feng Ning wrapped her scarf around her, tucking her face inside, and breathed out: “No need to thank me. Boss, if you really want to thank me, just give me a raise each month.”

“You’re always joking around.” Zhao Huiyun spoke softly, “By the way, do you know the Jiang family’s young master?”

“Who?” Feng Ning took a moment to react, then went “oh oh,” “Jiang Wen? We’re in the same class.”

“What a coincidence, maybe we can use this chance to build some connections with the Jiang family. I’ve been wanting to rent some shops near Guangjiu.”

Zhao Huiyun was shrewd; her earlier politeness to Yin Yan wasn’t without reason. Guilt was one thing, but she also had some intention to curry favor. She calculated, “I’ll contact them later. Would you be free during your break to tutor that little sister with homework for a few days? I’ll pay you by the hour.”

Feng Ning thought for a moment, “During winter break… apart from my KFC job, I should be free.”

“Heh, KFC hires child labor?”

“It’s temporary work, they’re not as strict.” Feng Ning smiled brightly, “Besides, doesn’t your shop use child labor too?”

“Why aren’t you my daughter? How did your mother raise such a sensible child?” Zhao Huiyun checked the time, took out several hundred-yuan bills from her wallet and stuffed them into Feng Ning’s hand, “Alright, I have a business meeting to attend, I won’t see you off. You two take a taxi back to school.”

The snow kept falling, and the big and small figures stood by the roadside enduring the cold wind for quite a while. The road was frozen, and there were few taxis passing by.

The dejected Zhao Fanyu had been holding back, and once his mother finally left, he burst into tears with a “wa,” sobbing and sniffling.

The little chubby boy’s sadness came suddenly. Feng Ning was dumbfounded. She stood beside him stomping her feet, took out a tissue to wipe his nose, “Why are you crying?”

Zhao Fanyu’s cheeks puffed up, “I just want to cry, I feel bad inside.”

“Your mom hasn’t even hit you yet, what are you feeling bad about?”

“I- I don’t want to tell you.” Zhao Fanyu hiccupped from crying, “But I just feel bad, wuwuwuwuwuwuwu, I feel really bad inside, wuwuwuwuwu.”

Feng Ning teased him, “Just tell me. If you don’t tell me, you’ll have to cry alone, keeping it all bottled up inside must feel awful.” She suddenly seemed to realize something, “Wow, no way, was that Anna toy you wanted at KFC last time meant for this little sister?”

At this, Zhao Fanyu cried even louder.

Feng Ning was about to die laughing, but kept a serious face and provoked him: “Little fatty, do you have a secret crush on someone? Now that you’ve made her end up in the hospital, she must hate you so much.”

Unable to argue with her, Zhao Fanyu cried wuwu while glaring at her between sobs.

“What should we do?”

Just as Feng Ning was having fun teasing the child, a high-end black car slowly stopped beside them.

The window lowered, and Jiang Yuyun asked: “Are you two heading back to school? It’s hard to get a taxi now, hop in.”

“Yes yes, thank you sister.” Feng Ning was delighted for a moment. She didn’t hesitate and quickly pulled Zhao Fanyu up. Only after opening the car door did she realize someone else was sitting in the back.

Feng Ning stared at him, and Jiang Wen turned his head away, looking out the window.

As the cold air rushed in, the windows fogged up with a layer of white mist. Feng Ning patted the snow off Zhao Fanyu’s head, her cheeks pink from the cold, but her smile was especially sweet, “Sister, you’re so nice, beautiful both inside and out.”

The driver was driving, and Jiang Yuyun smiled and asked, “What’s the little one crying about?”

“It’s nothing, he just got scolded by his mom earlier.” Feng Ning quickly explained.

Zhao Fanyu’s chest heaved up and down: “Sister is bullying me.”

Feng Ning raised her hand to cover his mouth, “What nonsense are you talking about.”

There was a traffic light at the intersection, and the car slowly decelerated. Jiang Yuyun browsed through some work emails for a while and asked: “Little girl, how old are you?”

“I’m in first year of high school.”

“Oh? Little Wen is also in first year.”

“We’re classmates.”

“You’re classmates?” Jiang Yuyun looked at them through the rearview mirror, “I thought you two didn’t know each other.”

“School just started, we’re not all that familiar yet.”

Jiang Wen hadn’t said a word the whole time, deliberately being cold to her. Just then, a phone call came in, and he answered it.

The car’s heating was very strong. Zhao Fanyu took off his gloves. When taking off his scarf, the gloves on his lap fell by his feet. Feng Ning bent down a bit to reach for them.

Jiang Wen was absent-mindedly talking on the phone when he glanced over and impatiently spread his legs apart to give her space.

On the other end, Zhao Binlin was yelling several times, “Where did you go, why can’t I find you? Hello hello, Jiang Wen Jiang Wen? Why no sound? Wen ge!”

Jiang Wen came back to his senses and casually responded, “What’s all the shouting about.”

“Oh oh oh, what were you doing just now, suddenly going quiet, I thought there was no signal.”

Jiang Wen’s features were cold and handsome, his expression annoyed, “I’m almost at school, hanging up.”

“Was that Zhao Binlin?”

Jiang Wen maintained his stern face and made an “mm” sound.

“Why are your dark circles so heavy?” Jiang Yuyun tilted her head slightly, “You’re only in first year of high school, don’t put too much pressure on yourself at school.”

Jiang Wen seemed to neither hear nor care.

“What’s going on with you lately? You look like you’ve lost your soul even at home. Did something happen at school?”

Jiang Wen cut her off, “Stop talking.”

Jiang Yuyun wouldn’t let it go, “Did you fight with your girlfriend?”

“I’m not dating anyone.”

“Really? When I was your age, I had so many boyfriends already. Why are you hiding it from me?” Jiang Yuyun turned to ask Feng Ning, “Does this kid have a lot of girls chasing after him at school?”

“Yes yes.” Feng Ning smiled, “Jiang Wen is super popular in our grade.”

While they were chatting, he slightly turned his head to look at Feng Ning, but quickly looked away again.

“Haha, when I took him out for meals in middle school, little girls would often follow us.” Jiang Yuyun changed topics quickly, “But he’s slow to catch on.”

“Indeed.” Feng Ning completely agreed, “It’s fine to catch on a few years later, we’re still young anyway.”

The car arrived at the school gate.

Feng Ning helped Zhao Fanyu put on his hood, patiently instructing: “Go back to your dorm and change your clothes, then be good and go to class in the afternoon, okay?”

Zhao Fanyu responded weakly.

Feng Ning straightened up and patted his back, “Alright, you go now, sister needs to go to class too.”

Someone walked by beside them.

Walking towards the teaching building, Feng Ning had her hands in her pockets, silently following two or three meters behind Jiang Wen.

They walked one in front and one behind, keeping some distance. She suddenly quickened her pace and called out, “Hey, Jiang Wen, did you win the lottery last time?”

“Don’t know.” His tone was normal.

“Damn.” Feng Ning still held onto a last bit of hope, “Did you check the results when they came out?”

“No.”

Jiang Wen didn’t want to deal with her, not even sparing her a glance. He walked forward, taking big strides.

She quipped: “Why are you walking so fast? Be careful not to slip, the road is slippery today.”

Thinking about it carefully, Jiang Wen had never shown her a good face, so Feng Ning stopped trying to curry favor.

Hmph, what a bad temper, hope he falls flat on his face!

Feng Ning stared at Jiang Wen’s back, imagining in her mind that as he walked, he suddenly fell face-first. Then at that moment, she would walk past him with her head held high, not even sparing him a glance.

Heaven seemed to have heard her curse, and karma came immediately. Feng Ning was lost in thought and didn’t notice the road conditions. Her right foot suddenly lost balance, her ankle twisting with her calf, and she screamed reflexively in surprise, startling snow off the branches above.

Jiang Wen looked back.

Only to see Feng Ning fall onto the road in an extremely ugly, extremely ugly posture.

Sharp pain instantly shot from her ankle to her central nervous system. Feng Ning’s face went pale, sweat beading on her temples as she cursed twice in pain, almost bursting into tears.

She was a bit dazed from the fall.

Thankfully it was winter and she was wearing thick clothes, so although the falling posture was ugly, her body didn’t hurt much. Her foot was still stuck in that small hole covered by snow, and when she tried to move it, the pain was so intense that Feng Ning had to sit on the ground to recover.

Fortunately among the unfortunate, it was lunch break time and there were very few people in the campus. No one witnessed her embarrassing moment.

Jiang Wen stood still for a few seconds, then walked over and looked down at her miserable state: “Are you okay?”

Feng Ning hurt whenever she moved, and angrily demanded: “Do I look okay to you?”

Jiang Wen made an “oh” sound, with an attitude of complete indifference, “Can you still stand up?”

“I’ll try.”

Because it hurt so much, she had to pause with every change in posture while getting up, which was extremely torturous. Under his gaze, she humiliatingly, slowly, crawled up from the snow.

“Let’s go to the infirmary.”

He still had some conscience after all, which comforted her heart a bit. Feng Ning let Jiang Wen support her as she hopped on one leg, her features all scrunched together in pain. After hopping for a while, she slipped again, nearly causing Jiang Wen to fall too.

She exploded in anger, “Wasn’t I wearing anti-slip snow boots today??? What kind of fake product is this, I can practically ice skate on the ground, I definitely need to file a complaint! This dishonest merchant, blatantly deceiving consumers!”

The road ahead was long, and who knows how long it would take to hop to the infirmary. Feng Ning completely deflated: “Why don’t you go call someone to help? I really can’t hop anymore, can you borrow a wheelchair or something for me?”

Seeing her miserable unlucky state, his mood suddenly improved for some reason.

Jiang Wen picked her up in his arms.

Feng Ning was startled and almost fell, reflexively wrapping her arms around his neck, “Damn, you’re princess carrying me? That’s not very appropriate, right? We’re still at school, it wouldn’t look good if others saw.”

That one sentence completely destroyed what little romantic atmosphere there might have been.

“Can you stop talking?” Jiang Wen was very impatient and adjusted her position, “Even if people saw, I’m the one at a disadvantage.”

“What do you mean you’re at a disadvantage?” Feng Ning had no mobility now and could only let him carry her, “Fine, I won’t argue with you. You look thin but you’re quite strong.”

After enduring for a moment, Jiang Wen squeezed out a few words through his teeth: “Are you trying to strangle me?”

Feng Ning looked up and saw that his face had two patches of red. She smiled apologetically and loosened her grip, “I just didn’t want to fall and felt insecure.”

As they walked, his breathing got heavier and heavier. Suddenly, Jiang Wen bent down and put Feng Ning back on the ground.

“What’s wrong now?”

Jiang Wen’s arms were numb, and he shook them out, his face showing some fine sweat. He was very cold and direct: “You’re too fat, I can’t carry you anymore.”

“I’m fat? Are you kidding me!”

Feng Ning was really speechless, awkwardly adjusting her clothes while muttering under her breath: “How am I fat, at most I’m just wearing more clothes today. I’m not even 100 pounds yet, I’m not fat at all!”

After resting for a while, Jiang Wen condescended to half-squat, “Get on.”

Feng Ning angrily climbed onto his back, “Men shouldn’t admit they can’t do something, so pathetic.”

Jiang Wen used his wrists to support her legs, muscles tensing as he paused, “Want to say that again?”

“Fine, I won’t say anything.” Feng Ning sighed, “You wouldn’t be petty enough to abandon me here alone, right?”

He tilted his head: “Want to try and find out?”

“I’ll never let go!”

On the way, Zhao Binlin called again. Feng Ning took his phone out of his pocket for him and held it to his ear. By the time he finished the call, her arm was sore from holding it up.

They finally made it to the infirmary with both of them panting heavily. After taking off her shoe for the doctor to examine, fortunately there was no fracture, just a sprained ankle.

It was the same female doctor as last time, who asked suspiciously while applying medicine: “Haven’t I seen you two before?”

Feng Ning sat on the bed and nodded: “Yes, we came here once before when he had heatstroke.”

The room had air conditioning on. Jiang Wen unzipped his jacket and went to the bathroom to wash his face.

Zhao Binlin was chatting beside them: “Wow, Feng Ning, how did you fall so badly?”

“I was thinking about something while walking and wasn’t watching the road, who knew I’d be so unlucky.”

Zhao Binlin had a strange expression, “Oh, so how come you were with Jiang Wen?”

Feng Ning briefly explained what had happened today.

Zhao Binlin nodded, “You two seem to have quite a connection.”

The female doctor said: “That should do it, you can go now. Remember not to do any intense exercise these days and apply the medicine on time.”

“Do you have a wheelchair or something here?” Feng Ning looked around.

The female doctor laughed, “We don’t have wheelchairs, but I can write you a note to get crutches from the logistics department.”

Feng Ning spread her hands: “How am I supposed to get there like this?”

The female doctor made a sound of acknowledgment, “Don’t you have two male classmates here?”

Zhao Binlin giggled and raised his hand: “How about I carry Feng Ning back to class, and you go help her get the stuff?”

Jiang Wen didn’t say whether he agreed or not, maintaining an expressionless face and looking completely indifferent.

“How about it?” Zhao Binlin asked.

Still no response.

“No good?” Zhao Binlin asked again.

Still no response.

Zhao Binlin put away his playful smile, “Never mind, I suddenly remembered my back hasn’t been good lately, better leave the carrying to Jiang Wen.”

Feng Ning climbed back onto Jiang Wen’s back, while Zhao Binlin stood to the side watching and laughing, letting out a particularly vulgar wolf whistle.

Halfway there, Feng Ning felt around her pockets. She called out, “Damn, where’s my phone?”

Jiang Wen stopped walking.

“Did I drop it where I fell?” She clicked her tongue in annoyance, “Let me borrow your phone to make a call.”

When she dialed, she heard ringing sounds – it hadn’t been turned off. Feng Ning let out a small sigh of relief, “It’s ringing, so probably hasn’t been picked up by someone.”

So they headed back toward the school gate.

Although this phone was given to her by Qi Lan when he paid for the phone bill, losing it this way would still break her heart.

She rambled: “I’ve always been really afraid of losing things since I was little. When I was in elementary school, I lost my bus card and ten yuan, it felt like the sky was falling. I hid on the rooftop at Shuang Yao’s house and didn’t dare go home.”

As she spoke, Feng Ning sniffed a couple times, “Jiang Wen, what shampoo do you use? It smells pretty nice.”

Jiang Wen remained silent.

“Why aren’t you saying anything?”

“What is there to say?”

She sniffed again: “The brand of your shampoo.”

“You can’t afford it,” Jiang Wen said flatly.

“…….”

Feng Ning was fuming.

Ugh!!! Disgusting rich person!!!!!!

But right now she couldn’t walk, and finding her phone depended on Jiang Wen. She swallowed her anger and didn’t invite more humiliation.

Jiang Wen put her down on a bench.

Feng Ning held out her hand: “Let me borrow your phone again, I want to search how to reduce swelling quickly.”

Jiang Wen hesitated slightly, took out his phone, unlocked it and handed it to her.

A gust of wind blew by, making the bushes rustle, and Feng Ning shivered. She admired the clearly expensive phone in her hands for a moment.

She opened the browser, and had just typed “how to” in the search bar when the history was automatically suggested:
