He suddenly felt as if he might lose his job. Xue Rui regretted not getting Xu Mizi off on an intermediate floor, and desperately prayed in his heart that Xu Mizi wouldn’t say anything out of line to displease the boss and displace his anger onto him.
After Ji Feng’s cold glance, he uttered indifferently: “Make her leave.” His voice was light, but the uncompromising weight behind it felt crushing, leaving Xue Rui hardly daring to breathe. He immediately obeyed and went to the door, urging Xu Mizi to quickly go back downstairs – as she could see, the boss did not wish to meet with her.
Anxious, Xu Mizi suddenly found the courage to brush past Xue Rui and stride swiftly into the suite, right up to Ji Feng. Xue Rui mentally exclaimed “Oh no!” – the boss extremely disliked unauthorized persons barging into this room. He hurried to catch up, hoping to get Xu Mizi out before she further provoked the boss, also securing a complete corpse for himself. But by the time he reached Xu Mizi’s side, it was already too late. She had begun speaking, gazing at Ji Feng urgently:
“Mr. Ji, there’s something I must tell you!” Xue Rui saw impatience already rising in the boss’s eyes. He immediately grabbed Xu Mizi’s arm, intending to take her away. But her slender arm possessed unexpected strength, unmoving no matter how he pulled. She continued speaking rapidly:
“That night you had a meeting, Mr. Duan was actually cheating you!” Xue Rui was shocked internally, his motion to drag Xu Mizi away halting. He turned to check Ji Feng’s reaction. Ji Feng had not only stopped showing impatience, one brow was even slightly lifted. He flicked a hand at Xue Rui. Xue Rui released Xu Mizi. “Go on,” said Ji Feng, setting his documents aside. He raised his head to look directly at Xu Mizi.
Xu Mizi took a deep breath, telling herself not to panic, there’s a chance! “That night, Mr. Duan and the Thai Mr. Prayut, they took advantage of the fact that you don’t understand Thai and openly schemed in front of you to pit you out of a huge sum when it came time to finalize the deal price! Mr. Ji, I understand Thai. Please believe me, I’m telling the truth!”
Ji Feng studied her, his gaze darkening. “Continue. What exactly did they say that night?” Drawing a breath, Xu Mizi immediately recounted:
“That night Mr. Prayut said his property need only sell for 80 million. But Mr. Duan told him that when it came time to finalize the price, he would report 100 million to you. Mr. Duan also said 100 million was pocket change to you, you wouldn’t refuse to buy Mr. Prayut’s property over the extra 20 million. Then Mr. Duan asked Mr. Prayut to transfer that extra 20 million into his own account afterwards, saying it was remuneration for his efforts in negotiating this successful deal. So Mr. Ji, that night Mr. Duan intended to take advantage of you not understanding Thai and use you as a money tree to cheat you out of 20 million!”
While 20 million was indeed insignificant to Ji Feng, Xu Mizi gambled he would definitely care about being treated as a fool before his very eyes by Duan Xiangchang and Prayut.
Just as she finished, Ji Feng did indeed rise swiftly from the couch. Stepping forward, chin raised to look down at Xu Mizi, he examined her meticulously made-up face, eyes narrowing slightly. Then in an emotionless voice that gave no clue to his feelings, he asked: “You didn’t rush up to tell me all this for no reason. So, out with it – what is it you hope to gain from me by telling me this?”
