Listening to Xu Mi Yu’s tone of voice, and watching her different-than-usual determined expression, combined with the exciting music filling the bar, Xue Rui suddenly felt motivated as well.
Glancing sideways, the alluring female boss of the “Night Rendezvous” bar had a lit cigarette raised to her lips, sucking on it. Her red lips seemed in the dim and dazzling light like a seductive demoness able to drain the essence of men.
Xue Rui didn’t know why, but his soul seemed to sway within his body for a moment.
He asked: “So who all is participating to cause trouble?”
Xu Mi Yu pointed at herself, then pointed behind at the sexy, red-lipped female boss.
Xue Rui became even more interested, readily agreeing: “Great! So what’s the plan for causing trouble?”
Xu Mi Yu told Xue Rui that this “mischief” was – she wanted to teach Duan Xiang a lesson, sneak attacking him from the shadows to get back at him and relieve some resentment.
In the past she had been weak and afraid to stand up for herself when taken advantage of and calculated against by Duan Xiang. She could only swallow her grievances and endure silently.
But now she had changed. Her courage and way of thinking had also changed. She was no longer as weak and easily bullied as before, enduring humiliation without a peep like a mute turtle. Now she really wanted to get back a bit at the person who had bullied her – limited revenge within her capabilities.
She had casually suggested this idea to Li Qiao Qi earlier. Unexpectedly Li Qiao Qi readily agreed to assist her. Her reason was: “That Duan guy is impossibly difficult to deal with, poking his nose into tons of things. Us girls with slim waists here haven’t escaped from his grasp. Of course that includes me since I also have a slim waist. That guy is just abnormal, with a waist obsession. So we’re scheming against him? No problem, I’ll coordinate with you. Consider it a gift from me for us reuniting!”
When Xue Rui first heard what the “mischief” actually consisted of, he was shocked, wondering if he had misheard. Xu Mi Yu actually wanted to sneak attack and club Duan Xiang?
But on further reflection, he felt there was no big deal. Duan Xiang truly deserved people’s resentment, so suddenly attacking him required no special day – just doing it when the impulse struck was fine.
With partners for mischief settled, the wicked plan formally launched into action.
Xue Rui asked about the detailed battle plans. When Xu Mi Yu wanted to explain step-by-step, Li Qiao Qi interrupted her while exhaling smoke: “Why ask so many questions? Knowing everything in advance would ruin any sense of mystery or anticipation, how boring! Rest assured, your Sister Mi Yu has likely already arranged everything perfectly. You just need to follow us carrying it out.”
Xue Rui had been an executive assistant, and the assistant to a difficult boss, for many years. He was long used to handling matters by arranging every detail properly ahead of time, making the steps and logic all known and orderly. Otherwise he would feel extremely uncomfortable.
Yet strangely, hearing Li Qiao Qi say this today, he happily gave up process, logic, certainty and order all at once.
Li Qiao Qi asked Xu Mi Yu – first step?
Xu Mi Yu’s eyes gleamed: “Get him drunk first.”
And so Li Qiao Qi summoned a few attractive male and female alcohol sales promoters in the bar. She instructed them to ingratiate themselves at Duan Xiang’s table and do their best to get Duan Xiang, A-He, and Zhao Xing Hua all completely wasted.
“That table has more money than they know what to do with. Go on, don’t hold back!”
The sales promoters promptly and enthusiastically went off on their mission. While plying them with alcohol, taking the chance to get them all falling-down drunk.
Everything was going smoothly until an unexpected development with Duan Xiang himself – his alcohol tolerance was actually quite good! Good to the extent that people couldn’t help wondering if his little finger was secretly channeling Six Pulse Divine Sword energy like Duan Yu, constantly expelling alcohol from his body. This allowed him to remain not completely inebriated despite continuous drinks, unable to reach the state of being beaten unconscious without even seeing clearly who did it.
In fact while A-He and Zhao Xing Hua were both knocked out dead drunk, unconsciously flat on the sofa, Duan Xiang could still stand by supporting himself to staggering off towards the bathroom.
After returning from the bathroom, seeing his two companions passed out like dead pigs, Duan Xiang lost all interest. He directly threw down a thick stack of cash before the beauty promoter: “Boring. I’m done drinking. You guys have the server get a room upstairs at the other hotel to drag these two dead pigs over. The rest is your tip.”
After finishing his instructions, he called over the parking service attendant and said: “Go bring my car over and get me a substitute driver.”
The attendant was somewhat awkward: “Mr Duan, so sorry but there are too many cars outside now with no empty spots. It’d be difficult to maneuver your car over and park to wait for the replacement driver right now. Could I trouble you to please walk over to where it’s parked tonight?”
Duan Xiang grumbled complaints for a bit before impatiently saying: “Then hurry up and lead the way to find my car! Stop standing there like an idiot!”
After speaking he got up and staggered tipsily towards the bar exit, steps swaying drunkenly.
The attendant brought him to the small back alley behind the building. On the way over, Duan Xiang continued cursing while reeking of alcohol: “F*ck, why’s it so far?”
The attendant quickly explained: “Your car is the most expensive one sir. It’s to avoid any scratches from others!”
Duan Xiang spat back: “Alright, I got it already, you said that before. Oh wait, you did say it before right? Right? See, even drunk I still remember things clearly!” He laughed arrogantly as he spoke before his expression abruptly shifted as he resumed cursing, “I’m f*cking tired walking! Tell your boss next time it’s parked this far out, you better prepare a shuttle!”
The attendant repeatedly promised they would as he finally led the man to his car. The entire way back he couldn’t shake the feeling there were shadows shifting on the T-intersection road.
After the attendant returned to the bar, Xu Mi Yu, Li Qiao Qi and Xue Rui emerged from behind a large roadside tree.
They rapidly walked towards the back alley. Xu Mi Yu was holding a wooden club. Xue Rui held a large sack. Li Qiao Qi pulled down on her top from both sides, changing the round collar into an off-shoulder style that exposed her shoulders.
Xue Rui couldn’t help sneaking extra glances at her eye-catching shoulders.
Just as the three were about to rush into the alley to carry out the club sneak attack scheme, a sudden straight, solid and bright beam of light flashed from behind. It was accompanied by the sound of an electric motorbike engine.
The three immediately dodged to the roadside to conceal themselves again. Looking back they discovered it was actually an electric delivery moped recklessly racing over.
It drew closer to them, continued righteousness unhindered onto the T-intersection road, then made a turn from beside the three people into the back alley.
A few seconds later, there was a loud “peng” noise followed by a miserable shriek. Then nearly tearful, frightened apologies in quick succession sounded out.
The three poked their heads out to look down the alley and saw that the delivery man had ridden to the wrong place. When hurriedly making a turn he had skidded, swinging wide enough to scrape Duan Xiang’s parked car in the process.
Xu Mi Yu, Li Qiao Qi and Xue Rui looked at each other speechlessly: “……”
He actually still managed to hit the car here in their hidden position!
This was simply retribution for accumulated misdeeds!
The delivery man propped his moped back up and apologized profusely, hands fluttering in panic.
Seeing the prestigious car logo had given him a huge fright.
Duan Xiang was leaning on his car smoking. Hearing the commotion he walked over from the front of the car to the back, smoking all the while and cursing at the man: “Blind?”
“So sorry, so sorry!”
“I parked in this back alley to avoid idiots scratching my car. But you still managed to ride back here and hit it. You did that on purpose didn’t you?”
“Really so sorry, truly so sorry!”
“Piss off.”
“Sorry…ah?”
“The hell you ‘ah’-ing for? Can’t understand ‘piss off’? What, you gonna pay me back if you don’t scram?”
The delivery man expressed endless gratitude while rapidly spitting out dozens of “thank you”s simultaneously as he flew off on his moped faster than a rocket launched into outer space.
Xu Mi Yu exchanged another mutual look with Li Qiao Qi and Xue Rui.
The three then signaled each other with their eyes before continuing to take action.
Li Qiao Qi walked into the alley first. To differentiate from her look inside the bar, she had specifically changed into another set of clothing and different hairstyle.
Clearly entering Duan Xiang’s line of sight while he stood leaning by his car waiting for the replacement driver, she suddenly turned with her back facing him and deliberately let out a “whoops” while toppling over backwards onto the ground. As she fell, one of her high heels that had been broken in advance flopped open behind her.
Hearing the sound, Duan Xiang looked over tipsily. Through his drunken gaze, he saw an elegant figure of a woman fallen sitting on the ground, one leg bent back, displaying a high heel shoe looking like an open mouth seeming to wave at him. Senses muddled by the alcohol fumes, his reason and ability to think rationally had both clocked out. His lustful nature made him return that “wave”, straightening up from the front of his car and staggering over swaying towards that elegant silhouette.
As he approached, he even gave a wolf whistle, the sound winding and enticing: “Beauty, need any help?”
He circled around to the woman’s front side. She kept her head lowered the entire time, one hand rubbing at her leg while crying out in pain. Although unable to see her face clearly, just the ambiguous atmosphere made him feel certain that this woman must truly be a beauty. And so gathering himself fighting through the drunk feeling, he squatted down inclining forward, wanting to see just how breathtaking the face of this constantly lowered head whining beauty actually was.
And it was right at this time that his vision went dark.
Xue Rui’s deft, decisive movement speed proved that aside from being Ji Feng’s assistant, he also served concurrently as his bodyguard.
Nearly in a flash faster than the eye could glimpse, while also keeping the action quiet and unseen, he had rushed to behind Duan Xiang. Then swiftly and efficiently pulled the sack over top his head and upper body before cinching the mouth closed and binding it, finishing up by giving a kick. Duan Xiang tumbled onto the ground.
Within the cloth bag Duan Xiang angrily cursed: “F*cker! You dare sneak attack me, believe I won’t beat you to death? Hurry up and let me out!”
His voice was muffled by the sack, making it sound hoarse and terrifying.
But no one paid him any mind.
Xu Mi Yu also rapidly rushed over. Wielding the club to wildly strike the now human-shaped sack Duan Xiang.
She controlled the force, making it so this beating could satisfy her revenge and humiliation without truly injuring the man.
Li Qiao Qi also climbed up from the ground, taking out her phone to start recording video of Duan Xiang being whacked by the club as he laid on the ground. As she felt Xu Mi Yu seemed to be pounding a dirt-covered rice cake fallen on the floor, she strongly resisted the urge to laugh, carefully not making any sounds. She aptly framed the shot to only capture the club swinging, keeping the person holding it out of the footage.
Sensing the timing was about right, Xu Mi Yu continued striking while using a lowered, altered voice to mimic another person, indignantly scolding: “Duan Xiang, shameless! I told you to seduce my aunt! There’s no one you won’t go after. Even a 50 year old aunt isn’t off limits to you. Have you no conscience? I’m recording your disgraceful true colors today. Dare to make another move and I’ll release this publicly online!”
After several more vicious strikes, her resentments somewhat released, she signaled with her eyes to the other two that it was time to retreat. The three promptly fled the scene like nimble rabbits.
Still trapped in the cloth bag on the floor, Duan Xiang thrashed around violently while spitting curses, yet was unable to break free.
Fortunately not much later the replacement driver finally arrived. Seeing something on the floor struggling, he kindly helped free Duan Xiang from the sack.
Emerging back into the light, Duan Xiang was practically apoplectic. He howled curses towards the now empty alleyway.
After raging for a spell he rounded on the poor driver: “The hell took you so long?!?”
Now certain the ash-faced disheveled man before him was the client, the driver hurriedly apologized: “So sorry, so sorry! I actually arrived earlier but the alley was hidden away. I was worried about going to the wrong location and asked someone for directions. They told me you were parked at the next intersection so I drove straight there first before realizing it was incorrect and circled back. That’s why I’m late, really so sorry!”
Duan Xiang was already too pissed to keep yelling at others. He waved for the driver’s assistance getting into the car before directly passing out in a drunken stupor during the ride home.
The three people who had succeeded in their mischief were incredibly excited, exchanging high fives to celebrate before ending this wonderful night.
The trio rounded the building corner. Just as they neared the bar entrance with barely containable thrills right at the cusp of overflowing out from all their mouths simultaneously, they suddenly saw a silhouette slowly emerge and walk out from a shaded area ahead of them. The three were collectively stunned before shocked, halting in their tracks at the same time.
Xu Mi Yu and Xue Rui squinted and upon careful inspection were shocked to discover the silhouette before them was unexpectedly Ji Feng!
Li Qiao Qi didn’t recognize Ji Feng. Assuming they had been caught red-handed, her tension skyrocketed.
Xu Mi Yu looked at Ji Feng, unsure how much he knew with regards to the “mischief” they had just pulled, or what his attitude was.
His attitude was unclear, so she likewise maintained calm composure.
Xue Rui was the first to regain his wits, knowing he had to casually greet this out-of-place boss as if nothing was amiss. But his tongue failed to keep up with his thoughts, stammering out: “B-b-boss how c-come you’re, you’re still here?”
Hearing this, Li Qiao Qi sighed in relief beside them: “Oh, he’s you guys’ boss? So an insider? No problem then!”
Xu Mi Yu also gave Ji Feng a greeting: “Mr. Ji”.
“Huh? He’s your boss too? So you and Xue Rui aren’t just friends but actual colleagues?” Li Qiao Qi once again provided unnecessary narration.
Ji Feng looked at Xu Mi Yu, then Xue Rui. His brows drew down as he coldly said in a deep voice:
“You two are quite audacious.”
His ambiguous words left uncertainty over whether he would discipline them or not. Duan Xiang was admittedly detestable, but orchestrating an ambush attack might not gain Ji Feng’s approval. Unable to determine Ji Feng’s attitude, Xu Mi Yu and Xue Rui didn’t dare rashly respond.
“Do you think you’re very clever?” Ji Feng’s icy question.
Xu Mi Yu and Xue Rui’s hearts sank. Looks like Ji Feng opposed their actions and was about to punish them…
“You thought everything was planned seamlessly?” His tone dropped another chilling degree.
Xu Mi Yu and Xue Rui simultaneously lowered their heads, preparing to apologize and show contrition. Even Li Qiao Qi was affected by Ji Feng’s freezing interrogative manner. For a moment she completely forgot that she wasn’t actually this cold-faced boss’s employee either and almost needed to lower her own head to apologize alongside Xu Mi Yu and Xue Rui.
“Is it possible for you to use those brains of yours first, thoroughly thinking a matter through from all angles before taking action?” Ji Feng’s voice was so cold that every word seemed to be personally carved out of ice cubes.
Xu Mi Yu and Xue Rui couldn’t help exchanging a mutual look.
—Wait why does this not resemble a dressing-down at all, despite the cold attitude??
Xu Mi Yu steeled her courage raising her head saying: “We did consider things from every angle before acting though…”
Originally brimming with confidence, when faced with Ji Feng’s derisive gaze her volume involuntarily weakened halfway through her declaration.
“Is that so?” Ji Feng slowly responded with two drawn out words laced with what seemed like quintuple contempt. “Are you certain?”
Xu Mi Yu heard a “put put” sound of a motor behind them, likely an electric moped traveling down the T-intersection road towards the end point before making a turn into the back alley on the other side of the building.
Who would be heading into that back alley so late at night? she randomly pondered.
Xu Mi Yu’s eyes then suddenly widened as she looked back at Ji Feng.
They really had overlooked a key detail – the replacement driver from earlier!
Carefully recalling, there actually had been an unexpected delay during their operation today, which was when the delivery man had ridden to the wrong area and scraped Duan Xiang’s car. Based on the timing, after that accident occurred, the replacement driver should have already arrived. Yet when they were finished scheming against Duan Xiang, the driver was still not there.
So there was one possibility in this gap that—
“Were you the one who hindered that replacement driver for us?”
