Xu Miya suddenly recalled something she had read before in science articles – you can pull out the headrests of front seats and smash the glass to escape. She hurriedly tried it. But due to the blocking panels and seals, the headrests were firmly secured to the seats, impossible to pull out at all.

Xu Miya was on the verge of a breakdown. The safety measures she had just praised were now all blocking her path to survival.

She desperately banged on the car window, begging the driver to come help get her out from outside. The water was about to completely fill up the car and she didn’t want to drown inside without seeing Ji Feng again. She still hadn’t heard what he wanted to tell her.

But outside, the driver was also helpless. Unable to find any tools and unable to force the window open with his elbow, when he went to call others over to help, everyone else was also busy escaping.

Finally the driver knocked on the glass loudly saying: “Wait there, I’m going to find people to come help, hang in there!”

After saying that, the driver swam out towards the tunnel exit.

Watching the driver swim away, Xu Miya suddenly felt she didn’t have a shred of chance to survive.

The car was finally depleted of the last bit of air, pressed out by the floodwaters. As Xu Miya desperately stretched to keep her nose tips above water, those were finally submerged too.

Drowning in the water, tears flowed down her eyes as she pounded the window in despair. She felt so unwilling to just die like this, unwilling to not see Ji Feng again, unwilling to not hear what he wanted to tell her, unwilling that she hadn’t gotten to tell him how much she loved him – that she was willing to disregard all self-respect and confidence anymore, she just wanted to be with him.

In the darkness, numb from asphyxiation, her tears floated in the flooded water. Nearing loss of consciousness, she said her desperate final farewells to Ji Feng in her heart.

She closed her eyes, prepared to wait for her own death.

But suddenly, loud explosive sounds came from nearby her ears. Opening her eyes, the suffocating daze made her unable to see clearly what had happened for the moment.

The next second, someone dragged her out via the smashed car window, abruptly lifting her above the water’s surface.

A voice shouted loudly by her ear: “Miya, breathe, breathe!”

Xu Miya finally knew she was no longer in the water. She greedily gasped for big desperate breaths, panting till her entire body violently trembled.

When she finally more or less caught her breath, she was fiercely pulled into an embrace.

That embrace held her extremely tightly and forcefully.

That body also trembling violently.

When the owner of that embrace spoke, his voice carried trembling fear and panic.

He called her name over and over.

Xu Miya finally awoke from her dazed suffocation. She pushed open that embrace and saw Ji Feng’s face.

She actually got to see him again.

She was actually rescued by him.

Just earlier she had almost never seen him again.

What now? From now on, it seemed she could no longer be without him.

Looking at Ji Feng’s face, confirming she was indeed alive, she finally couldn’t withstand it anymore and burst loudly into tears.

After Xu Miya took the express car, Ji Feng, left as the emergency contact, immediately received notification of her ride.

Looking at the route, Ji Feng instantly knew Xu Miya was heading to the Xing City station to pick him up.

He was very delighted, but pretended otherwise since he wanted to let her surprise play out.

The closer they traveled towards Xing City, the darker the skies and heavier the rain came down. By the time the train rolled into the station, the rain was coming down bizarrely heavy.

Seeing the smoking downpour outside, Xue Rui couldn’t help but complain: “Did the White Snake spirit fight Dharma Master Fahai again, trying to flood Xing City or something?”

Ji Feng also gazed out at the heavy rain. He felt very uneasy inside. He picked up his phone to look and discovered Xu Miya’s ride had stopped moving midway through the tunnel route.

The entire tunnel pathway was marked red verging on black, indicating extreme congestion inside.

After getting out of the station and seeing the road flooding, Ji Feng thought fine, he’d stop pretending to not know Xu Miya was coming to pick him up. First he had to determine her location and safety.

He made the call but only heard the notification tone that her phone was off.

Somehow his heart instantly dropped with a bad premonition clouding his heart.

Xue Rui drove the car out from the station parking lot. As soon as he got in, he told Xue Rui: “Head towards the tunnel, quick!”

Although confused, Xue Rui still slammed the gas pedal down, forcing a path through the floodwater.

They soon arrived by the tunnel area. Xue Rui looked grimly at the outside and told Ji Feng: “Boss, it looks like the tunnel has flooded!”

Ji Feng’s heart plummeted heavily. Hoarsely he told Xue Rui: “Stop the car, let me get out, hurry.”

Xue Rui quickly parked at a higher terrain spot. Just as he parked, Ji Feng immediately got out without even an umbrella. But after a split moment’s thought, he took the glass breaker left in the car before rushing crazily towards the tunnel entrance.

The closer they got to the tunnel entrance, the deeper the floodwaters became. By the time they reached it, Ji Feng was no longer running but swimming.

He grabbed someone swimming out from the tunnel and asked: “What happened inside?”

“It got flooded, terrifying! Hey, don’t go in anymore, it can drown people to death! Hey hey!”

Everyone was escaping from the flooded tunnel outwards, only Ji Feng was desperately swimming against the human flow inward.

Inside the submerged tunnel, he fiercely searched for the car Xu Miya had taken. Halfway through, he crashed into someone swimming outwards, a middle-aged uncle. After colliding into one another, that man unexpectedly didn’t hurry to swim off. He blocked Ji Feng’s way and desperately asked him instead: “Can you help me, help swim back in to save someone? My customer is still trapped in the car! Please swim back in to rescue her, I begged so many people but no one would stop to help, I’ll feel guilty for life if my customer dies drowned inside my car!” The middle aged man pleaded urgently to Ji Feng.

Ji Feng was jolted in his heart. He immediately stated the express car license plate number sent to him as this emergency contact, then asked: “Is this your car?”

The middle aged man hurriedly nodded: “Yes yes, it’s mine, but how did you know?”

Ji Feng had no time to answer irrelevant questions. Anxiously he asked: “Where’s your car stopped?”

The man immediately said: “Just ahead, around twenty meters or so. Very noticeable, the cars in front and back are black, mine’s white…”

Before he even finished speaking, Ji Feng had already swam off.

Ji Feng desperately swam forward until finally finding the middle aged man’s car.

Peering through the window when he got there, he saw Xu Miya trapped inside nearing suffocation.

His heart panicked as if he himself was also about to suffocate. Forcing himself to stay calm, he promptly smashed the window glass open with the safety hammer, pulling Xu Miya from inside the car cavity.

Holding her as they floated above water, he shouted her name loudly, telling her to breathe and pant.

As she gasped in big desperate breaths, she came to again! She was fine!

In a split moment he felt his whole body drained of strength. No one else understood just what kind of terror he had experienced. If he were late even one step, perhaps she would have already…he didn’t dare think of that horrifying word. He was terrified with lingering fear.

He held her tightly in his embrace, like embracing a life and death recovered treasure.

Over and over, with trembling fearful voice, he called out her name.

The person in his embrace gradually reacted. She pushed him open and saw his face.

Seeing his face clearly, she finally could no longer withstand it and burst loudly into tears.

“Ji Feng? Why are you here? Just earlier I thought I was surely dead, I thought I’d never see you again! I felt so unwilling. I still hadn’t heard the thing you wanted to tell me!” Xu Miya said sobbing.

Xu Miya’s crying made Ji Feng feel numb in his whole heart. Seeing her crying face covered with tears, his heart was full of terror and distress.

He raised his hand to wipe off the dirty water and tears on her face, hoarsely asking her: “Xu Miya, don’t speak nonsense. You tell me, if you had died, how could I still live on?”

After saying such, the lingering fear made his entire body shiver. Staring fiercely he told Xu Miya harshly: “Today has been too much fright from you Miya. You’ve made me scared down to developing lifetime heart disease! You have to take responsibility for my mental health for the rest of my years!”

Finishing saying that, he fiercely kissed her – air tight, disregarding everything.

Xu Miya also responded desperately.

Just then an inharmonious voice abruptly cut in: “Ahem…Boss, Sister Miya, I hope you can both please calm down. Why don’t we all first swim out, then you two can continue kissing?”

Xue Rui’s voice finally managed to pull back two people drowning in water yet immersed in professing love, obliviously crazily kissing each other.

The three of them finally swam out of the tunnel and into the car. Later in the news, they heard no one drowned in the tunnel, all managing to escape unharmed, relieving Xu Miya greatly.

In the car, Ji Feng instructed Xue Rui: “The apartment terrain is low, surely flooding severely there too. Let’s go straight to the hotel instead.”

After saying so, his eyes never looked anywhere else again. Entirely fixed on Xu Miya.

The entire ride they sat in the back, eyes meeting directly facing one another, gazes seeming permanently set on each other.

Outside, rain still pouring. The car wheels through flooding streets issued sounds like fabric ripping. The water noise made Xu Miya shudder in lingering fear. But Ji Feng held her hand, giving warmth and comfort, gradually calming her nerves and settling her heart.

In the front passenger seat, Xue Rui felt salty from his nonexistent presence after such effort driving for them in this weather yet still having to be fed dog food.

He glanced at the time, already past midnight, into the next day.

He spitefully forced his way into the conversation: “Boss, it’s past midnight already, did you do yesterday’s farm harvest?”

Ji Feng instantly frowned sharply.

He forgot.

Something he persisted for over ten years was interrupted yet again.

“Why didn’t you remind me earlier on the bullet train?” Ji Feng angrily turned his head to glare at Xue Rui driving in front via the rearview mirror.

“The signal was bad on the train…” Xue Rui apprehensively glanced at Ji Feng through the mirror, speaking weakly.

Seeing Ji Feng’s strange anger, then Xue Rui’s obvious fear, Xu Miya couldn’t help asking worriedly: “Is it a big deal to miss a day?”

Ji Feng promptly turned back to reassure her: “Not a big deal.”

Xue Rui countered his deceit: “It’s not too bad, just some agonizing about it afterwards – kicking the slippers, messing up his hair, slapping the table and what not…”

“Huh?” Xu Miya grew curious.

Xue Rui told her: “Let me explain it this way Sister Miya. With this farming game matter, Boss Ji has persisted for over ten years, doing it daily without a single miss. His persistence is to what level? Originally when the gaming company was going under, Boss Ji simply bought over the whole company – all to continue this matter without disruption.”

Hearing such, Xu Miya stared with astonishment, full of incredulity inside.

“But why persist for over ten years in something like that? Is there some meaning behind it?”

It’s just online farming and harvesting right?

“I asked Boss Ji before why he insists on something as boring as that game,” Xue Rui glanced at Xu Miya through the mirror, saying: “At the time Boss Ji told me he wanted to use this boring game to temper his own willpower a bit – to see if there is something he can commit to doing lifelong, no breaks ever, persisting daily for an entire lifetime even if its something as boring as this.”

Upon hearing this, Xu Miya couldn’t help but click her tongue: “That does sound like something he’d do.”

He has absolute determined willpower. Once he decides to do something, he can persist continuously doing it no matter how boring.

Xue Rui looked back via the mirror and said smiling: “Though later on Boss Ji integrated the farm game with charity agriculture activities, so now it’s become rather meaningful.”

Xu Miya exclaimed in realization. That’s even more like something Ji Feng would do – making even boring things gain value.

Ji Feng was unhappy at Xu Miya hitting it off so intimately chatting with Xue Rui, acting as if he didn’t exist. He squeezed her hand, protesting being ignored.

But Xu Miya disregarded him, continuing to get confirmation from Xue Rui:

“So it’s true he hasn’t missed planting and harvesting crops a single year in over a decade?”

Persisting at something to that degree would really be quite impressive.

Ji Feng dissatisfiedly interjected from the side: “What are you asking him for? The person involved is right next to you—ask me.”

Xu Miyu turned to look at him. Ji Feng asserted very categorically: “That’s right, never missed it.”

Xu Miyu thought to herself: Wow.

But Xue Rui immediately rained on his parade again: “Sister Miyu, don’t listen to President Ji. He missed it twice but he’s too vain to admit it.”

Ji Feng promptly told him to shut up or he’d fire him.

Xu Miyu also promptly said to Xue Rui: “You won’t get fired, he’s only trying to scare you. So when were those two times he missed it and why would he feel it’s shameful?”

Glancing at Ji Feng in the backseat through the rearview mirror and confirming that although he currently wore an awfully cold and angry expression, when sitting next to Xu Miyu he was really just a paper tiger, Xue Rui cheerily answered: “Once was when you two broke up. President Ji stopped planting for a few days then. He was in an awful mood during that time, nitpicking everyone on everything—no one looked good to him.”

After listening Xu Miyu turned to look at Ji Feng. Ji Feng feigned ignorance: “Who was in a bad mood because of some breakup? Nonsense.” Then he looked out the window, presenting an air of having no interest in discussing the matter further. But the tips of his ears had gone red. Seeing that, Xu Miyu’s heart instantly melted into soft mush.

If Xue Rui wasn’t present, she really would have hugged him and patted his back to offer some comfort.

Xue Rui’s voice suddenly sounded: “As for the second time… well actually, that was today. Oh no, strictly speaking, already yesterday by now. Boss was so anxious to see you on the bullet train that he forgot all about it. The moment he got off train and saw the heavy rain, unable to reach you, so worried about finding you that he couldn’t be bothered to remember this matter either. So yeah, another miss.”

Reaching this point, Xue Rui’s tone suddenly grew more solemn: “Sister Miyu, today I finally saw clearly—you really are very important to our President Ji. You’re the only one able to make him break a habit kept for over a decade!”

A surge of warmth instantly arose in Xu Miyu’s heart, her eyes burning hot. What virtues or talents did she possess to gain the favor of such an outstanding and remarkable man, now well into his prime years of life?

She quietly reached out to grasp Ji Feng’s hand. Though Ji Feng still gazed out the window, he immediately clasped hers in return.

The car pulled up to the hotel entrance. As Xu Miyu was about to get out, she discovered she had actually lost one of her shoes at some point! It must have come off in the underpass.

The entire return journey her eyes, heart and thoughts had been completely full of Ji Feng—she simply hadn’t noticed losing a shoe. And now, about to exit the car, she couldn’t help looking a little stupid.

Without a word Ji Feng swiftly got out and circled around to Xu Miyu’s side. Opening her door, he bent down, briskly tugged off her remaining shoe and casually tossed both shoes into the car. Then he leaned forward to scoop her up in his arms.

Xu Miyu gave a low shriek in shock.

“Put me down, someone might see!” she implored Ji Feng.

But Ji Feng held onto her tightly instead. He even outrageously jostled her once, frightening Xu Miyu into hurriedly throwing her arms around his neck.

Instructing Xue Rui to drive straight home and take tomorrow morning off for a good rest, Ji Feng turned and carried Xu Miyu toward the hotel entrance.

Seeing no way to stop Ji Feng, Xu Miyu could only frantically gather all her bangs over her face to hide it, while trying her utmost to bury her head against Ji Feng’s chest.

As Ji Feng held her moving through the lobby toward the elevators, Xu Miyu was distinctly aware of every person there feigning busyness while actually craning their necks and gawking, wide-eyed, attempting to discern just who was the woman in Ji Feng’s arms.

The probing stares pierced into Xu Miyu. Clutching Ji Feng’s neck, she desperately buried her face in his throat again and again.

Ji Feng seemed delighted. Once on the elevator, he still teased her: “So you like my neck that much?”

Back in the room, worried she would catch cold after being drenched in the rain, Ji Feng promptly brought Xu Miyu into the bathroom for a warm shower.

He ended up joining in this shower.

In the end he really couldn’t restrain himself, so under the rainfall showerhead, inside the bathtub, in front of the sink… he pressed her down everywhere.

When they finally finished washing up and emerged from that bathroom, it was a long, long time later.

After putting on bathrobes, Ji Feng carried Xu Miyu into the bedroom.

Seeing that bed, Xu Miyu’s cheeks immediately flamed.

Their first time had taken place right here on this bed.

Ji Feng set Xu Miyu down on the bed edge, pecked her lips and gazed into her eyes to say: “I have something to give you. Wait here a moment, alright?”
