Chapter 35: Missing Mom

While eating from his bowl, Liang Jieran asked his father muddled, “Dad, when can I go see Mom?”

Liang Zhengzhi, who had been reading the newspaper, looked up at Liang Jieran, “Just eat properly, don’t talk so much.”

After taking another bite, Liang Jieran persisted, “But I miss Mom. I want to eat Mom’s cooking.”

Liang Zhengzhi threw the newspaper aside, “Mom won’t come back. From now on, you’ll stay with Dad.”

“Why won’t Mom come back?”

Thinking of Shen Yuchun and the news his subordinates had brought, Liang Zhengzhi grew angry. She hadn’t even divorced him yet but was already rushing into her ex-husband’s arms. That Shen Yuchun was nothing but a tramp.

“Don’t mention that woman in front of me. Just eat your food and stop asking questions,” Liang Zhengzhi slammed the table irritably.

“Mom isn’t like that!”

“Stop talking nonsense. Eat your food and don’t mention her in front of me again.”

Liang Jieran burst into tears, dropping his chopsticks, “Dad is so mean! I won’t talk to Dad anymore!” He ran upstairs crying.

“Sir, the young master is still just a child,” the butler couldn’t help but remind him.

“Get out,” Liang Zhengzhi snapped.

When it was time to take Liang Jieran to school, he had locked himself in his room and wouldn’t come out.

Sun Mingyan knocked on the door, “Ran Ran, it’s time for class. Please open the door.”

Liang Jieran sat by the door, leaning against it, “I won’t go to class. I won’t go.”

“Be good, Ran Ran. You’ll be late for school.”

“I won’t go.”

Liang Zhengzhi had come upstairs at some point. He stood at the door for a moment and asked Sun Mingyan, “He won’t come out?”

“No, Ran Ran refuses to come out.”

Liang Zhengzhi knocked on the door, “Liang Jieran, I’ll count to three. You better come out.”

“I won’t.”

“Three.”

“Two.”

“One.”

“Liang Jieran, are you coming out or not?”

“I’m not coming out!” Liang Jieran wiped his tears and shouted loudly, “I won’t come out!”

Liang Zhengzhi’s face reddened with anger, “Fine, see if you can stay in there forever.”

Sun Mingyan looked at the angry Liang Zhengzhi and couldn’t help reminding him, “The young master is still just a child.”

“When did our Liang family’s business become your concern?”

Sun Mingyan lowered his head, not daring to speak.

“He’s stubborn. Let’s see how long he can stay in there.”

Liang Jieran sat by the door hugging his little rabbit. He wiped the tears from his face, mumbling, “Mom, Dad is so scary. Ran Ran is afraid. Ran Ran misses Mom so much.”

After crying for a while, he felt hungry. He hadn’t eaten much at lunch, and after crying for so long, he felt even hungrier.

He got up from the floor and sat in his chair, taking out his diary from the drawer.

September X, 2015 Today Dad was very scary. Ran Ran is afraid. Dad said Mom won’t come back, but Ran Ran misses Mom so much.

After writing, he locked his diary in the drawer. He suddenly remembered that for his birthday this year, Liang Zhengzhi had bought him a phone watch. He thought it was too ugly and never wore it – it might be on top of the bookshelf.

He brought over his little stool and stood on it, reaching for a long time before finally touching the edge of the box.

Still couldn’t reach it.

He was too short.

Liang Jieran looked around and spotted a small wooden box under the bed. He jumped down from the stool and pulled the wooden box out. With effort, he placed it on the stool and climbed up.

He managed to reach the box down but lost his balance, falling down with the box.

“Young master? What are you doing in there? I heard a loud noise – did you fall?”

Sun Mingyan pressed against the door, anxiously wanting to rush in.

“Go away,” Liang Jieran said, rubbing his sore bottom. He sat on the floor and opened the box.

The box was covered in dust. Inside were only charging cables and instructions – no phone watch.

“Ran Ran will save Mom’s number first.” “Okay.”

This memory suddenly popped into his head. He remembered that although he had thought the watch was ugly, he had played with it and saved Shen Yuchun’s number. As for the watch itself, he couldn’t remember where he put it.

He threw the box aside and searched the room thoroughly but couldn’t find it. Sitting on the floor looking around for a while, he spotted something hanging around the neck of the teddy bear on the bookshelf – it was the phone watch.

He took down the watch – it was out of battery. He charged it for a while, then sat on the floor and dialed Shen Yuchun’s number.

Shen Yuchun looked at the number flashing on her phone and answered. Liang Jieran’s tearful voice came through: “Mom, where are you? Ran Ran misses Mom so much. Dad is so scary, Ran Ran is afraid.”

“Ran Ran, aren’t you at school?”

“No, Dad is scary. Ran Ran is afraid. Ran Ran doesn’t want to go to school.”

Shen Yuchun’s heart clenched as she listened. She held the phone, continuously trying to comfort Liang Jieran: “Don’t be afraid, Ran Ran. Don’t be afraid.”

As she spoke, she couldn’t help crying herself. She didn’t even have a proper job – how could she fight for Ran Ran’s custody?

“Liang Jieran, are you coming out for class or not?”

“Mom, Ran Ran has to go now.” Liang Jieran hung up and hid the phone watch in his blanket. He ran to the door and opened it.

Liang Zhengzhi stared at Liang Jieran for a moment, then told Sun Mingyan, “Take Ran Ran to school.”

After all, Liang Jieran was his own flesh and blood.

Liang Jieran was taken to school.

Shen Yuchun held the phone and sat down weakly by the door. That dog Liang Zhengzhi, how dare he frighten Ran Ran.

Xu Hengyu heard the commotion and helped her up: “The floor is so cold, why are you sitting there?”

Shen Yuchun grabbed his arm, speaking emotionally, “That dog Liang Zhengzhi – Ran Ran is his own flesh and blood, how could he treat Ran Ran like this?”

Xu Hengyu patted her back: “Calm down, calm down.”

“How can I calm down? How can I possibly calm down? Ran Ran told me he’s scared and misses his mom – how can I calm down?”

After Xu Hengyu comforted her for a while, Shen Yuchun’s emotions finally stabilized.

With red eyes, Shen Yuchun cried and hugged him: “After all these years, don’t you blame me? Why don’t you blame me? Why do you still help me?”

Xu Hengyu: “I don’t blame you. I only blame myself for being incapable.”

“You won’t deceive me too, will you?”

“I won’t deceive you.”

“You really won’t deceive me, right?”

“I won’t.”

Shen Yuchun mumbled: “Anyway, I’m someone who has nothing now. I’ve lost everything, so I’m not afraid of you deceiving me.”

Xu Hengyu grabbed her wrist: “I will never deceive you, never. I’ll help you get Ran Ran’s custody back.”

Shen Yuchun thought of Xu Si again: “What if Si still won’t accept me?”

Xu Hengyu: “It’s just a matter of time. He will accept you.”

“Really?”

“Really. He will definitely accept you.”
