Chapter 65: Trying to Wear Me Out?

On the afternoon of October 8th, in Class 4 of No. 17 High School.

“Chen An, our school is having a sports meet with No. 6 High School in a few days.”

“Chen An?”

Seeing Xia Chen An’s lack of response, You Li patted his shoulder.

Xia Chen An looked up: “What is it?”

“I called you twice, but you didn’t hear. Why are you so distracted lately? Hit puberty?”

You Li meant it as a joke, but noticed Xia Chen An’s ears turning red.

“Wow, something’s really up! The iron tree is blooming! Which class is she from? Is it that class flower from Class 12 who used to chase you? Or that really pretty girl from upstairs…”

Xia Chen An shook his head: “I don’t know.”

He’d only seen her twice, only remembered her blue and white school uniform, and her particularly beautiful, clear eyes.

“Then you’re looking for a needle in a haystack. Where did you see her?”

“At the bookstore. She wore a blue and white uniform, carried a backpack. She was clean and pure, like a white jasmine flower.”

“Blue and white uniform?” You Li asked, suddenly realizing something: “Both No. 6 and No. 1 High Schools have blue and white uniforms, but that’s still not enough to find her.”

Xia Chen An looked out the window: “I met her twice at the bookstore, same time period. The third time I waited at that time, she didn’t come.”

“Maybe she stopped going to that bookstore,” You Li said regretfully. His friend’s first love ended before it began.

“What were you going to tell me earlier?” Xia Chen An asked.

“Our school is having a joint sports meet with No. 6 High School, didn’t you know?”

Xia Chen An shook his head.

“Fine, fine, there’s nothing in your head except studying.”

Xia Chen An’s mind drifted back to when he first saw her. He used to think love at first sight was fake. Later he discovered someone really could crash into your heart at first glance.

A few days before the sports meet.

Fang Zixin was discussing the upcoming events. “We need someone to carry our class sign. Should we vote, or should I randomly draw?”

The class chorused “Vote!”

Fang Zixin smiled: “Do you have any suitable candidates in mind?”

“We should choose our class’s best face!”

“Jiang Qiao!”

Luo Xing shouted even more excitedly than the boys.

Yang Shikun yelled loudly: “Must be Student Jiang, she’s our class’s face, right?”

Xu Si watched Jiang Qiao’s ear tips gradually turn red and kicked Yang Shikun’s chair.

However, Yang Shikun didn’t get the message. He turned back to ask Xu Si: “Si-ge, you agree, right?”

Before Xu Si could say “no,” Yang Shikun shouted even louder than before.

Then the whole class started chanting for Jiang Qiao.

Xu Si: “…”

Fang Zixin made a quieting gesture, then asked Jiang Qiao: “Jiang Qiao, what do you think? It’s fine if you don’t want to, we can choose someone else.”

“It’s fine.” Jiang Qiao added, “I’ll do it.”

Fang Zixin smiled: “Alright, that’s settled then. The sports and culture representative will handle the details. Each class needs to perform two programs. Any volunteers?”

When it came to performances, a girl raised her hand.

Fang Zixin nodded at her: “What will you perform?”

“Ukulele singing.”

“Very good.”

Fang Zixin asked again: “Anyone else? The school will screen performances.”

Several more people raised their hands.

Fang Zixin asked them: “What will you perform?”

They looked at each other and replied: “A skit.”

After Fang Zixin left, Xu Si asked Jiang Qiao: “Do you really want to do it? Don’t force yourself to do things you don’t like.”

“It’s fine.”

Before, when her health was better, she often performed for the class and even competed at the city level. Later, she almost never did.

“‘Fine’ means you don’t want to.”

Jiang Qiao laughed and shook her head: “That’s not true.”

When she smiled, her eyes curved like crescent moons.

Right after evening self-study ended, the class sports representative ran around with a sign-up sheet asking who wanted to participate in sports events.

The sports representative was a girl named Li Mo, with a round face and round eyes, very cute.

She asked around but couldn’t find anyone for the 3000-meter run.

She looked at the empty seat beside Jiang Qiao, remembering others saying Xu Si was fast, but he never participated in sports meets and barely talked to anyone. He looked fierce, and she was somewhat afraid of him. She noticed Jiang Qiao talked to him the most.

Li Mo approached Jiang Qiao: “Classmate Jiang, could you help?”

Jiang Qiao looked up from her book: “What is it?”

“Well…” Li Mo hesitated: “Could you ask your desk mate if he’ll participate in any sports events?”

Jiang Qiao nodded: “Okay.”

Li Mo wrung her hands and asked: “Also, would you like to help with sports logistics?”

Afraid Jiang Qiao would refuse, she added: “Just bringing water and cheering, if you don’t want to…”

“Okay.”

Li Mo hadn’t expected such a quick agreement. She put the sign-up sheet on Jiang Qiao’s desk: “Remember to ask your desk mate, it would be great if he could do the 3000-meter run.”

“Okay, I got it.”

Li Mo looked back at Jiang Qiao gratefully, thinking the new student was beautiful, kind, and easy to talk to. She really wanted to kiss her.

Seeing Li Mo look back, Jiang Qiao smiled.

Li Mo thought: First, I’m not into girls, but the new student’s smile is so pretty. Damn, I really want to kiss her.

Xu Si returned from outside and saw the paper on his desk. He picked it up to look.

Jiang Qiao explained: “It’s the sports meet sign-up sheet.”

Xu Si tilted his head to look at her, confused: “Hmm?”

“The sports representative asked me to give it to you.”

Xu Si looked at the sheet for a while, suddenly remembering the little bookworm probably couldn’t participate in sports meets. He pointed at the list: “Choose one for me.”

Jiang Qiao looked at the sheet, remembered Li Mo’s words, and pointed to the 3000-meter run.

“Trying to wear me out? You heartless one.”

Just as Jiang Qiao was about to suggest something else, she saw him take her pen and check the 3000-meter box.

“3000 meters is a bit much.”

Xu Si stared at her for a while, his expression seeming to say, “You think so too?”

Before Jiang Qiao could speak, he said: “I can run it.”

“Okay, then I’ll bring you water.”

“Alright, little bookworm.”

The heartless one still had some heart after all, Xu Si’s eyes filled with laughter.
