Chapter 72 – “The ‘he’ in her message”

Luo Xing agreed: “Qiaoqiao, I agree too, even though that boy is really handsome.”

Jiang Rong nodded thoughtfully.

Xu Si glanced at the distracted Jiang Rong. The little bookworm was so innocent.

Jiang Rong remembered her unfinished words and said softly: “Congratulations on getting first place.”

Xu Si smiled: “Didn’t I promise to bring you first place?”

Jiang Rong was stunned – she’d thought he was joking that day, but he’d been serious.

The young man smiled mischievously. Her heart beat erratically.

The sports meet ended. Everyone went to collect their medals, with certificates to be distributed in the following days.

Jiang Rong watched the young man stand in first place. His expression was neutral, wearing a black hoodie with his school uniform open, his nose bridge distinct and high, his eyes long and alluring, his black hair slightly messy from running, giving him a different air.

Principal He personally placed the medal around Xu Si’s neck and patted his shoulder: “Not bad at running.”

Xu Si replied: “You’re too kind, Principal He.”

“It would be better if your grades improved too.”

“That might be a bit difficult.”

Since Principal He had to give medals to second and third place, he just glanced at Xu Si before moving on.

The school’s photographer captured the moment.

Xu Si took off his medal and returned to his class position. Seeing Jiang Rong looking up at him, he asked softly: “Want to see the medal?”

“Yes.”

Xu Si took out the medal and put it around her neck, his tone gentle: “I won first place for you, so the medal is yours too.”

The autumn air was cool, but Jiang Rong’s face was burning hot.

She looked at the medal, then carefully took it off and put it in her pocket.

“Though I’ve said thank you many times, I still want to thank you, Xu Si. I can’t participate in intense sports, and this helps fulfill a regret of mine.” She smiled at him.

Her smile was bright, her eyes shining.

Seeing her curved eyes, Xu Si felt an inexplicable softness in his heart. She was so sweet. He wanted to pinch her cheeks.

Yang Shikun ran to watch Hao Ming receive his award, sticking out his tongue at him as he stood scowling in first place.

Hao Ming glanced at him with an expression that seemed to say “idiot.”

Could Yang Shikun let that slide? When Hao Ming came over with his medal, he couldn’t help saying: “What was that look for? Got a problem?”

“I didn’t say anything.”

“Datou, let your daddy see the medal.”

“Get lost.”

Despite his words, Hao Ming still showed him the medal.

Yang Shikun examined the shiny medal: “Is this real gold?”

“Gold your head, how could it be real gold?”

Yang Shikun bit it and evaluated seriously: “Must be alloy, it’s quite hard.”

Hao Ming: “…”

Seeing Hao Ming’s look, Yang Shikun glared: “What are you looking at? What’s wrong with taking a bite?”

Hao Ming: “…”

Yang Shikun casually wiped it on his clothes and handed it back: “Here, stingy.”

He returned to the class with Hao Ming and asked Xu Si: “Si-ge, Si-ge, let me see your medal.”

Jiang Rong took the medal from her pocket and handed it over.

Xu Si remained expressionless.

Yang Shikun: Did I miss something?

He took the medal from Jiang Rong: “They’re all the same, haha.” He handed it back: “Here you go, Study Queen.”

People gathered to look at Hao Ming and Wu Wei’s medals, and the girl’s second-place medal.

The sports meet ended. Class 17 won many medals, their total points crushing other classes.

Teacher Fang was delighted: “Our class performed excellently in this sports meet.”

“Of course!” “Teacher Fang led us well.”

Wu Wei had been showing off his medal around the class.

Fang: “I can’t teach much about sports, it’s not my specialty.” He continued: “Did you enjoy the sports meet?”

“Yes!”

Fang smiled: “That’s good. I always believe in playing hard and studying hard. Now that the sports meet is over, let’s focus on studying. Midterms are coming soon.”

“What? Didn’t we just have exams?”

“That was a while ago. November midterms are coming, so focus and study hard.”

A reluctant “okay” came from below.

Yang Shikun: “One month till doom.”

Hao Ming: “What? Planning to waste another month?”

Yang Shikun said “get lost.”

After a few minutes, he turned to Xu Si: “Si-ge, want to play a game?”

“No.”

Xu Si played his puzzle game for a while, noticed Jiang Rong still doing homework, and watched her for a bit. Her handwriting was very neat and proper.

He looked away and returned to his game.

Jiang Rong finished a problem and asked him: “Aren’t you doing homework?”

“When have you ever seen me do homework?”

“Fair enough.”

Jiang Rong went back to her work.

After returning home, showering, and getting ready, it was almost eleven.

She worked on some problems until she heard a knock. Opening the door, she saw Auntie Liu with blueberries and cherries.

“Have some blueberries, they’re good for your eyes. Rest early, Qiaoqiao.”

Jiang Rong sweetly replied “okay” and took the fruit to her room.

She ate some blueberries and checked her phone.

She saw a friend request and accepted it. A message came quickly.

[97]: Hello Classmate Jiang, I’m Xia Chen’an. [Jiang Rong]: Hello, I’m Jiang Rong. [97]: I know.

Jiang Rong didn’t know how to respond to that “I know,” so she just replied “mm.”

Xu Si was playing his puzzle game when Yuan Yuan squeezed into his lap. He pinched Yuan Yuan’s face, took a photo, and sent it.

Jiang Rong replied quickly.

[Heartless One]: It’s so cute. [Xu Si]: Not doing homework? [Heartless One]: Did some, not now.

Yuan Yuan stretched to watch Xu Si message. Seeming to sense that he’d sent an unflattering photo, Yuan Yuan pawed at his phone.

Jiang Rong saw the random letters sent. [Jiang Rong]: ?

Before Xu Si could explain it was Yuan Yuan, he saw her next message.

[Heartless One]: Wait, he says he wants to discuss a physics problem.

Xu Si stared at that “he” in her message for a while.
