Chapter 70: Wiping His Sweat
The referee called everyone to their positions. Xu Si quickly withdrew his gaze.
The starting gun fired.
Hearing the sound, Jiang Qiao’s heart inexplicably raced, as if she were the one running on the track.
The youth’s naturally long legs put him half a lap ahead of the others in the first round.
“Damn, who’s that handsome guy in first? He’s not from our Seventeenth High, is he?” “That bad boy look is totally my type.” “Wow, already half a lap ahead.”
Luo Xing watched the youth running on the track and gently tugged at Jiang Qiao’s sleeve, worried: “Qiao Qiao, do you think he started too fast? Will he have enough energy left?”
The youth was spirited, his black hair tousled by the wind, his clothes billowing. His features were already distinguished, carrying a hint of wildness.
Watching his composed demeanor, Jiang Qiao said softly: “He’ll be fine.”
…
Yang Shikun stood up, cheering loudly. Many from Class 17 were cheering for Xu Si. For several laps, Xu Si maintained his half-lap lead.
Suddenly, among all the cheering, he heard a soft “Go!” It was Jiang Qiao’s voice.
He almost twisted his ankle.
He slightly turned his head toward Class 17’s tent, then crossed the finish line.
He took first place.
The field erupted in cheers, Class 17’s being the loudest.
Remembering his words, Jiang Qiao brought water to meet him.
Seventeenth High’s water bearers were there too, but faced with his fierce expression, they didn’t dare approach.
The Sixth High girls didn’t dare bring water either, only daring to look from afar.
Xu Si’s forehead was covered in light sweat as he watched Jiang Qiao walk toward him step by step.
Jiang Qiao handed him the water: “Congratulations.”
Xu Si laughed lightly: “Save the congratulations for later, little traditionalist. There’s still the final.”
Jiang Qiao said softly: “Okay.”
Xu Si took a few sips of water, feeling much better.
“Do you have paper?”
Jiang Qiao suddenly remembered and pulled a tissue from her pocket to hand to him.
Xu Si sensed the gaze from nearby and turned to see that boy from Sixth High.
He didn’t take the tissue from her: “Help me wipe, I’m a bit exhausted.”
Jiang Qiao was slow to react, not understanding how he could take water earlier but couldn’t take tissue now.
She held the tissue and, as the youth lowered his head, gently wiped the sweat from his forehead.
From Xu Si’s angle, he could see her curled eyelashes, small nose, and her eyes – the most beautiful feature of her face, like amber. He could even see the fine down on her face.
Her face looked so soft. He wanted to pinch it but feared frightening her.
Jiang Qiao met Xu Si’s gaze and inexplicably felt her heart flutter. After wiping a few times, she looked away and quickly withdrew her hand.
Yang Shikun watched their interaction with a face that said “my ship is definitely sailing.”
Luo Xing wasn’t far from them. Watching Xu Si lower his head for Jiang Qiao to wipe his sweat was unbearably sweet.
One sweet and obedient, one slightly roguish. Yet together, they were surprisingly harmonious.
…
You Li noticed Xia Chen’an’s fixed gaze and asked: “What are you looking at?”
Xia Chen’an withdrew his gaze: “Nothing.”
Looking at those two, they seemed quite close. If she had someone she liked or a boyfriend, he wouldn’t disturb her.
“Did you get her contact info?”
Xia Chen’an shook his head.
“Then why did you suddenly go to their tent today?”
“We talked a bit. I didn’t know how to ask.”
You Li: “…”
You Li: “The sports meet is only three days. After today, only two days left. If you don’t take the chance, you might never meet again.”
“You’re right.”
Xia Chen’an wanted her contact information but didn’t know how to ask. Whenever he met her eyes, he felt his messy thoughts were desecrating her.
He added: “But she seems to like someone else.”
You Li was confused: “Why do you say that?”
“Just saw her wiping sweat for another guy.”
A trace of melancholy passed through the youth’s phoenix eyes, carrying barely noticeable sadness.
You Li was silent for a moment, then said: “Well, with looks like hers, it’s not surprising if she has a boyfriend, or even several.”
He looked at Xia Chen’an again: “But don’t be sad, we can ask around and find out.”
Xia Chen’an made a sound of agreement.
You Li thought: My brother becomes my love rival, and I have to console myself about being heartbroken. I’m truly the best friend ever.
…
After the men’s 3000 meters came the long jump.
Yang Shikun saw the number tag in Hao Ming’s hand and cursed: “Damn you, Big Head! You’re my brother and you signed up for the sports meet without telling me? Let’s end our friendship.”
Hao Ming: “Tell you? Long jump? Running? High jump? Which one could you do?”
“Get lost, friendship over, no discussion.”
Hao Ming was silent for a moment, then looked at him: “End it later, help me pin this number tag first.”
“No.”
“Hurry up, we can end our friendship later.”
Yang Shikun reluctantly took the number tag and pinned it on him, then patted his back: “Good luck.”
Hao Ming gave him an OK sign.
Soon, Yang Shikun heard exclamations from the long jump area. Apparently, someone had made an impressive jump.
Every time he heard their scores, he thought they were freaks. It definitely couldn’t be that idiot Hao Ming.
Shortly after, Yang Shikun saw Hao Ming coming back.
Seeing his expressionless face, Yang Shikun patted his shoulder consolingly: “Even if you didn’t jump very well, don’t be discouraged. It’s about participation. Tell me how far you jumped, I won’t laugh at you.”
Hao Ming said flatly: “Almost jumped out of the sandbox.”
“…”
Yang Shikun cursed: “Then what’s with that look on your face like you ate something bad? Anyone would think you got a terrible score.”
Hao Ming: “Didn’t you say you’re ending our friendship?”
Yang Shikun: “Still ending it, don’t talk to me.”
Hao Ming smiled.
Yang Shikun cursed: “What are you smiling at? I won’t forgive you.”
“I’ll take you gaming later.”
Seeing Yang Shikun’s hesitant expression, Hao Ming added: “And treat you to dinner.”
“Deal.”
The first day of the sports meet ended. The sunset dyed half the sky red.
Luo Xing carried water while Jiang Qiao carried her stool as they walked side by side.
While Jiang Qiao was lost in thought, suddenly someone took the chair from her hands.
