Chapter 71: Not Dizzy Before, Dizzy Now
The sunset cast a soft glow on the young man. Xu Si looked at her: “I’ll carry it.”
“Thank you.”
“No need to thank me.”
This stumped Jiang Qiao: “Then what should I say?”
“Say anything.”
“Then, you’re welcome.”
“Stealing my words?”
Xu Si laughed.
“You said anything was fine.”
Xu Si was amused by her: “Alright, you can say ‘you’re welcome.’”
Back in class, Fang Zixin looked at the neatly seated students: “Enjoy the sports meet. We’ll watch a movie during tonight’s self-study period.”
“Great!”
“Wu Wei, you’ve become famous at school. Many teachers asked me if you’re from our class.”
The class burst into laughter.
Fang Zixin continued: “But you ran well, bringing back first place.”
Wu Wei: “Yes, sir.”
The class laughed again.
Fang Zixin waved the USB drive in his hand: “Enjoy the sports meet. We’ll watch movies these few days.”
“Great!”
You Li said to Xia Chen An: “I found out she’s a transfer student this semester, ranked third in the whole grade. As exceptional as you. Very well-behaved, reportedly single. That guy you saw should be her desk mate.”
“Desk mate?”
You Li nodded: “Yeah, desk mate. The school’s top troublemaker at No. 6 School, everyone knows him.”
Xia Chen An’s mind wandered hearing this.
By the second evening of self-study, the class’s initial excitement about watching movies had turned to numbness.
Yang Shikun: “We’ve watched more movies these two days than I did all last semester. My brain’s about to explode.”
Hao Ming: “When you can’t watch them you want to, when you watch too many you’re tired of them.”
“Why are you making me sound like a player?”
“Aren’t you?”
“Get lost, I’ve never even dated once and you’re calling me a player.”
“You look like one.”
“…”
On the last day of the sports meet.
Before Wu Wei went on, Fang Zixin reminded him: “This is the last competition, do your best.”
Wu Wei responded: “I’ll complete the mission.”
He then went on field.
Next to the other athletic students, Wu Wei looked rather small and thin.
The referee’s starting gun fired.
Wu Wei burst forward. His explosive power was strong, though not as exceptional as Xu Si’s, but he pulled ahead of the others in the first lap.
In the second lap, he looked back once, then rushed toward the finish line.
He took first place.
Class 17 erupted in enthusiastic cheers.
Back in class, amid congratulations, Wu Wei smiled: “Keep it low-key, low-key.”
In the women’s 800 meters, a girl also took second place.
For the 3000 meters.
Before Xu Si went on, Jiang Qiao handed him a bottle of glucose: “To prevent low blood sugar.”
Xu Si finished the glucose and smiled: “Little bookworm is quite thoughtful.”
Jiang Qiao knew he was teasing her again: “Good luck in the race. Remember to warm up first or you might get cramps.”
“Got it.”
Xu Si gave her a somewhat mischievous smile.
Xia Chen An observed their interaction.
After warming up, the referee called the athletes to their positions.
Xu Si was right next to Xia Chen An.
When the starting gun fired, everyone burst from the starting line.
Xu Si and Xia Chen An were almost parallel, keeping very close to each other.
Jiang Qiao watched that figure nervously.
Luo Xing pointed at the two on the track: “Qiao Qiao, that handsome guy and Si-ge are neck and neck. Wonder who’ll take first place.”
Though she wasn’t running herself, Jiang Qiao’s heart was racing.
By the final lap, almost everyone was exhausted.
Xu Si and Xia Chen An still led the pack, with another boy trailing behind.
“Xu Si.”
“Go for it!”
Hearing that soft cheer, Xu Si smiled slightly.
Jiang Qiao watched him suddenly surge forward, pulling away from the others.
Amid Class 17’s cheers, the young man crossed the finish line.
He searched the crowd for Jiang Qiao, and when their eyes met, he smiled.
Xia Chen An took second place.
He wanted to ask Jiang Qiao for her contact info after the race, but saw that guy also walking toward the shelter.
Jiang Qiao handed water and paper to Xu Si: “Congratulations on first place.”
Just as Xu Si was about to speak, a male voice came from beside them: “Sorry, I’m here to mooch water again.”
Jiang Qiao handed a bottle to Xia Chen An.
Xu Si glanced at him but said nothing.
Xia Chen An took a few sips and looked at Jiang Qiao: “Thanks for the water these past few days.”
“It’s a joint sports meet between No. 6 and No. 17, it’s only natural.”
Xia Chen An smiled: “I heard you’re an excellent student. Would you consider participating in physics competitions together?”
“Haven’t thought about it.”
“Then let’s exchange contact info, we can discuss problems together in the future.”
Jiang Qiao thought briefly and agreed: “Okay.”
Xu Si silently listened to their conversation. What discussion of problems – clearly just wanting contact information. The little bookworm didn’t suspect anything at all. Tsk. So innocent.
Just as Jiang Qiao was about to hand over the paper, there was a “thud.”
Jiang Qiao looked at the fallen water bottle, then at Xu Si: “What’s wrong?”
“My hand feels weak.”
“Are you dizzy?”
“Wasn’t dizzy before, suddenly feeling it now.”
Jiang Qiao reached out to support him, her voice worried: “Might be low blood sugar.”
Xu Si leaned half his body against her: “Don’t know, just dizzy.”
Xia Chen An held the paper, unsure whether to stay or leave. He said to Jiang Qiao: “I’ll go first then. See you around, classmate Jiang.”
Jiang Qiao made a sound of acknowledgment: “See you around.”
Xu Si leaned most of his weight on her but was careful not to completely rest on her, afraid of crushing her.
Seeing her slightly furrowed brows, he found her utterly adorable.
From his angle, he could see her profile. Her lips looked soft and kissable.
Xu Si was startled by his own thoughts and looked away.
Jiang Qiao helped him sit down, took out a candy from her pocket, unwrapped it, and held it to his lips: “Have some candy, you’ll feel better.”
It was strawberry flavored.
Jiang Qiao asked: “Want water?”
Xu Si shook his head.
Luo Xing, having just finished delivering water to others, was surprised to see Xu Si being supported back by Jiang Qiao: “What happened, Qiao Qiao?”
“Low blood sugar.”
“He needs to rest a while, get some sugar.”
“He’s had candy already.”
Luo Xing sighed in relief: “That’s good.”
Then she added: “Did that handsome guy ask for your contact info just now?”
Jiang Qiao made a sound of agreement: “He said we could discuss study problems in the future.”
“No, Qiao Qiao, you really believe that?”
“Huh?”
Seeing Jiang Qiao’s confused look, Luo Xing was about to speak when she heard someone beside her say: “Just an excuse to get contact information.”
